Vicky Hanrahan, mother of two boys, Fullerton, California.
Why We Love Her:
Although Vicky spent years getting her MFA in painting and drawing, her newfound needle-felting craft is so artistically fulfilling that she hasn’t picked up a paintbrush in years. After browsing through her felt toys, we can see why. Every item in her shop is painstakingly created by stabbing loose pieces of wool thousands of times with a sharp needle until it forms into shaped felt – and those shapes become intricately designed animals, monsters and dolls. For Vicky, it’s a labor-intensive yet highly meditative way to make natural, kid-friendly toys. Knowing the unique process it takes to make these impeccably created items, we’re in awe of how fast she mastered this self-taught craft.
