Babble Best Picks:
Training Potties

When the time comes to potty train - whether that's at 12 months or 3 years - there are dozens and dozens of potty seats to choose from. And while we wish we could tell you what the unequivocal best is, a lot has to do with your child's age, your personal preference, and simple trial and error. Some toddlers prefer the security of a tiny potty seat, while others will step up to the big toilet from the get-go. Some parents don't mind cleaning out a plastic potty, while others gag at the mere thought.

That said, we did find top contenders in various categories, whether your main concern is price, aesthetics, or overall performance. Read through to find our favorite potty seats on the market - and don't forget to check out close runners-up in our Readers' Choice section. Don't see your favorite on the list? If you're at all entertaining the idea of potty training, this one from IKEA is simply a no-brainer - even for those staunchly against small potty seats. The IKEA LÄTTSAM is refreshingly simple (no crevices to clean!), functional (it contains what it needs to contain!), and, best of all, it's 5 dollars. 1-2-3-4-5 bucks, people. While you're at it, buy an extra to keep in your car for emergency gotta-gos and then another to keep at Grandma's. And for all of you who would rather change a diaper than clean out a piece of poop-smeared plastic, your little one just might prefer a pint-sized potty. And in that case, at least it's only a $5 piece of plastic.

If you have a larger toddler who still refuses to use the big-kid toilet, it can be a struggle to find a potty seat that’s wider, taller, and comfortable enough – and that’s where the Prince Lionheart PottyPOD comes in. Using the same comfy anti-microbial material as Prince Lionheart’s weePOD the PottyPOD has an adjustable seat base (which raises the seat an inch or two) and a more generous seat cushion. We also love the non-slip bottom and removable bowl, although the PottyPOD has more crevices to clean as opposed to a one-piece design.

It’s quite pricey, but it just might be what your bigger toddler needs to feel secure and comfortable.

  1. Over priced and the bowl does not come out for cleaning.
