There’s a certain itch I feel sometimes, just under my skin, that sinks its way down deep into my heart and from there starts coursing through the blood in my veins until my entire body is aching with a desperate desire to be loved. Fully, completely, deeply, with total abandon, unconditionally. Not desperately, or in a clinging way. But in a triumphant, ecstatic way. It’s a longing for a love that’s universal, that penetrates all time and space, that heals all wounds and sees all things. It’s a hope for a communion with what is godly and what is beautifully, tragically human. It is like so totally profound, dude. Beyond.
When that happens to me, as it happens occasionally, if I am near a computer, I must immediately listen to Elton John’s “I Want Love.” It’s a soothing balm in a fiery moment. It calms me and cools me, and then I can continue on. I know I’m not the only person who’s faced from time to time with needing a musical Epsom bath, so when you find yourself in a similar spot, turn on this playlist and know the one thing that is true, courtesy of Rihanna: we all want love. The playlist starts with intensity and then mellows, and if you listen to it, you will, too.

Lord – somebody – somebody
Can anybody find me – somebody to love?”
THANK YOU, FREDDY. Amen.
