10 Things Every Single Needs To Know About MarriageLamar Tyler
The world is filled with people who desire marriage, but have no idea what real married life entails. We often run into people who share that their parents have been married for decades but they still don’t know how they overcame issues that arose. All of these issues were resolved behind bedroom doors, so their children never got to see the resolution or the process that proceeded it.
Since that is the case, we thought that we would help you out. On the next few pages you’ll find information that no one ever tells you before you get married. Taken to heart, this information may keep you from marrying the wrong person or getting divorced once you do make that step.
Check out my list of 10 things that every single person needs to know about marriage. After you read it, let me know if I left anything out, if there is anything here that you didn’t already know, or if the list was dead on.
I: MARRIAGE WILL NOT FILL THE VOID IN YOUR LIFE 1 of 10Some people think that a loving spouse will make them whole, but that is far from the truth. One of the best things that you can do to prepare yourself for marriage is to work on you, before you say I do!

II: MARRIAGE IS NOT 50/50 2 of 10Marriage is not 50/50. Marriage is 100/100. In order for your marriage to thrive, you'll have to give everything that you can at that time to the relationship. Fifty percent just won't do.

III: THERE ARE NO DEALBREAKERS 3 of 10When you get married you need to put all of your chips on the table and bet on your future. What we've learned from talking to couples who have been through all types of situations, is that there are no true dealbreakers. We've seen couples survive and thrive after financial crises, infidelity and more. If both of you are dedicated to the marriage you can make it work.

IV: MARRIAGE MAKES YOU EXAMINE YOURSELF 4 of 10Marriage can be the best personal growth tool on the market. If you're honest with yourself, in your relationship, marriage will cause you to continuously examine your actions. It will also cause you to grow in ways that may be uncomfortable but beneficial in the long run.

V: YOU WON’T KNOW IF YOU HAVE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE UNTIL CONDITIONS COME TO TEST IT 5 of 10The statement above was made in our latest film, Still Standing by one of the featured couples. I love it, and think it says so much about marriage. We can often say that we love each other unconditionally but we really will never know until the conditions arise. The only thing that is definite is that these conditions will come, so do your best to prepare for them beforehand.

VI: YOU WILL DISAGREE SO LEARN TO DEAL WITH IT 6 of 10Let's get this straight: you will disagree. You will argue. Everything will not always be perfect, and that's OK. Some people go into a marriage thinking that something is wrong if you don't always agree with your spouse. What's more important is how you handle the disagreements when they surface.

VII: THE REAL REASON FOR DIVORCE IS … 7 of 10Take a guess. Is it infidelity, finances, communication breakdowns? The real reason behind most divorces is that at least one person is not willing to do what's required to maintain the relationship. That could be counseling, compromise, or personal growth and development. This is the difference between couples who go through these major issues and make it and those who do not. VIII: THE WEDDING DAY IS NOT THE PINNACLE OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP 8 of 10This was a statement from Aja Dantzler, one half of husband and wife duo Kindred the Family Soul. Aja was spot on with this. So many newlyweds prepare more for the wedding day than they do for the marriage. Don't let this happen to you.

IX: EVERYONE WILL NOT BE HAPPY ABOUT YOUR MARRIAGE 9 of 10A lot of people have to learn this tough fact the hard way. Some of your friends and even your family may not share in your joy, for one reason or another. It's your responsibility to not let negativity affect your marriage, regardless of where it arrises. Stand strong with your spouse and your marriage will prosper.

X: A GOOD SPOUSE MAKES YOU BETTER 10 of 10This is something that people who are married should promote more. Our culture promotes the myth that when you get married you are losing something. It could be freedom, money, potential, opportunities for fun, etc ... The truth is that an amazing marriage will propel you to new heights, fueled by the unparalleled support system you'll find in your spouse.
