The 90’s were filled with Aquanet, overalls, and female squeals due to the number one boy band of all time.
New Kids on the Block! Eeek!
It was also quiet a decade for television entertainment. From Beverly Hills 90210 to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I was obsessed with all things Angel, California, and high school. I can still rap the theme song of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air in its entirety.
One thing I could never relate to, however, was the relationship drama and lovey-dovey moments of this Must See TV. During the 90’s, I went through an awkward phase. With a mouth full of metal and plastic, pink-framed glasses too big for my oblong face, I didn’t go on dates or get attention from my male peers. What can I say? At 16, I had the body of a 10-year-old boy.
That was in 1993, y’all.
So, since I didn’t get any action in the 90’s, I will recreate six dates inspired by my favorite 90’s shows.
Dates Inspired by the Shows of the 90s 1 of 7
Dylan and Brenda may not have lasted but their love lives forever in my mind! Check out the slideshow to see how these 90's shows can be used as date inspirations.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Date: Obstacle Course 2 of 7
Buffy was in love with Angel, who just so happened to be a vampire. What a conundrum! So, why not take a date to an obstacle course? You can chase him like your prey and pin him down with a juicy kiss. Just be sure not to bite. Photo Credit: Flickr/33427671@N06
Beverly Hills 90210 Date: A Diner 3 of 7
Beverly Hills 90210 had drama by the name of Brenda Walsh. They also went to the Peach Pit a lot. Recreate a date inspired by the richest zip code by snuggling in a booth at a diner. Men, just make sure not to eye another lady, especially not a blonde! Photo Credit: Fanpop
Saved by the Bell Date: Karaoke 4 of 7
The characters on Saved by the Bell went from high school students to superstar singers. Remember how bad their lip-synching was? Oh the 90's! So, on this date, get your karaoke on. If you're not much of a singer, just say you're imitating Screech. Photo Credit: Fanpop
Fresh Prince of Bel Air Date: The Pool House 5 of 7
One of my favorite Fresh Prince of Bel Air episodes is the one where Will is stuck in the basement with his girlfriend after an earthquake. They got to know each other very well, and he learns everything about her is fake. Why not recreate that very moment? Hole yourself up in a room (pool house, anyone?) and get to know your date a little better. Just make sure to leave the Lee Press On Nails and fake hair pieces at home. Family Matters Date: Meeting of the Minds 6 of 7
A game night is just what the nerd in you ordered for your Family Matters inspired date. And if you just so happen to whip your man's behind when playing Trivial Pursuit, just smile and say, "Did I do that?" Photo Credit: Fanpop.
Friends Date: An Art Class 7 of 7
The friends on Friends often gathered in the living room to watch Ugly Naked Guy do his thang. Why not get inspired by this theme and take your date to an art class? Just hope that the nude man posing for you is not Ugly Naked Guy. Photo Credit: Wiki.
