7 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Tying the Knotlovesujeiry
Marriage is serious business. You can’t just do it with anyone. You are promising to have and to hold ’till death do you part. Death is many, many years away! Hopefully.
Besides the actual marriage (I hear being married isn’t as easy as Cinderella makes it look), there’s also the wedding. Imagine spending all that time planning a wedding to only get an annulment. Or standing up your groom at the alter because you weren’t sure he was “the one.”
And there’s cost. A wedding alone can cost upwards of ten thousand dollars. I can’t waste a fabulous wedding dress and pretty centerpieces on just any dude. I will not go on a honeymoon in Tuscany or the Greek Islands if I have any doubts. The man I marry has to have certain qualities that I seek in a long-term partner, and in the father of my (future) children.
That’s why before tying the knot I will ask myself these seven questions, some silly and others oh-so-essential.
Riddle Me This Before I Walk Down the Aisle 1 of 8
So many questions to ask before marriage, so little time! That's why I have compiled a list of silly and necessary ones to ask your mate.
Will He Be a Hot Old Guy? 2 of 8
Let's get straight to the shallow, shall we? Looks! I know, I know. Why do you have to be so superficial, Sujeiry? Well, I like attractive things, so the man that I marry better be extra hot, even when he's old and wrinkly. I want my husband to win Mr. Beautiful even when he's 60. Think George Clooney. If there was ever a model-off at a senior home, I want him to be the king of the catwalk. Photo Credit: Flickr.com/jwjensen.
Does He Love Me at My Worst? 3 of 8
I have always wanted a man that loves me at my worst. That should be the man I marry, right? Because anyone can deal with me at my best. When I am all dressed up and in heels, any man will be impressed and stand by my side. But I want a man to love me even when I feel ugly, inside and out. When I am sad and insecure and even angry. I want him to realize that I have many parts, and he needs to love every particle. Photo Credit: Flickr Creative Commons.
Can He Buy Me a House? 4 of 8
I am not used to men buying me things and being financially free. Most men that I've dated are struggling artists, or they are stingy. Well, I've learned my lesson, ladies. My husband has to not only be wealthy but also generous. He doesn't have to be a millionaire but he does have to have vision and want those millions as much as I do. And a house in Malibu would be splendid. Photo Credit: Flickr.com/lorda.
Does He Speak Spanish? 5 of 8
He doesn't have to speak it fluently, but I would like my future husband to try to speak my first language. I want my kids to be bilingual. Besides, my mother speaks little English. She's dying for a son-in-law to gossip with in Español about novelas. Photo Credit: Flickr.com/elgrandee.
Is He Hygienic and Organized? 6 of 8
One of the things that I loved about my ex was how organized and clean he was. He is a lot like me in that way. Everything in my apartment has its place! And if anyone puts it elsewhere, I want to scream. One of my exes was the opposite. His place was a mess and I could smell mold. I remember wanting to cry when I sat on his dirty futon. All I could thing of was bed bugs. Not sexy at all. Photo Credit: Flickr.com/tomborowski.
Is He Friends with His Exes? 7 of 8
And I hope the answer is no! I don't want any ex-girlfriends around my husband. You can be friends on Facebook, but she shouldn't be coming over for dinner. You shouldn't go out for drinks. The only exception to that rule is if you were friends since youth. And you never had sex. Photo Credit: Flickr.com/mcbeth.
Does He Want Children? 8 of 8
My biological clock is ticking, so a man who doesn't want to make beautiful babies with me may not be the man for me. This needs to be a conversation way before the wedding, or committing to a relationship for that matter. You'd think it's an obvious conversation. But I know many women who have committed to a man and shacked up with him without talking about children. Don't assume he wants kids or you won't be walking down the aisle at all.
