Caking Up is Hard to Do: Divorce by DessertJessica Ashley
Before you have your spouse served with papers, maybe consider serving him a big old slice of divorce dessert. The soon-to-be ex-wife of Reddit poster omnicidial did with this celebreak-up cake for his birthday that’s iced with “Sorry about the divorce!” rather than HBD or even just the frosting roses everyone loves. The exclamation and expression on her face? Probably not what omnicidial was wishing for that day.
If you’re divorced or even thinking about it, this might not strike you as funny (thanks to the many Reddit commenters who pointed out their own angers and issues probably best reserved for therapy). And although omnicidial says there are some upsides to the whole cake thing.
“I didn’t really want a divorce, still don’t really, because of the kids more than anything. But I am (we are) not the kind of person to be an ass to someone because we’re not working out together,” he comments. Moving on maturely scores major points.
His emotions also didn’t prevent him from seeing the humor here.
“That was the funniest thing about the picture to me,” he writes. “It reflects her in a sort of funny/crazy way and that I’m just sad. Just happened to turn out that way.”
Still think this all sounds… umm… hard to swallow? Consider this relatable honesty from omnicidial: “This will sound sort of f*cked up, but I fed part of that cake to the kids.”
Focusing on the positives seems like a good move for omnicidial and his funny-ha ha ex. Like how neither of them smashed the cake in the other’s face. And how laughing through heartache can feel like a relief now and serve you well later.
And how divorce cake might be sweet, but a happier, healthier life after the break-up might be even sweeter.
Would you? Could you? Did you serve a cake-up dessert to end a relationship? How did that go?
