1 Piece, 8 Ways: The Gingham Button-Up

FacebookTwitterGoogle+TumblrPinterest

About a year ago I bought myself a navy gingham button up. At first I mostly just wore it by itself with a pair of jeans, but after a few months I started getting creative with it and found out how unbelievably versatile of a top it is. It has definitely become a closet workhorse for me.

In fact, there are so many different ways to wear it that today I want to show you 8 easy ways I wear it!

Click through to check out my different looks, as well as a little round-up of gingham tops so that you can buy one for yourself!

A fun way to make the shirt have a different silhouette is to belt it. Try a skinny belt or a wide belt, or colored or metallic. The shape becomes very flattering when paired over a fit and flare style dress like I'm wearing above!

A button up layered under a sleeveless top is a great way to add warmth, visual interest, or a little peek of pattern. I paired mine with a sleeveless peplum top, and then boyfriends to make the outfit feel a bit more casual.

  • Unbuttoned 4 of 13

An unbuttoned top like this can feel very 90's grunge when unbuttoned, so keep it modern and feminine with a pair of white skinny jeans, a colorful sweater underneath, and then maybe even try a pair of sparkly flats or heels if it's still feeling too grungy for you!

  • Under a Sweater 5 of 13

A button up and a sweater were made to be layered. Since my gingham button-up is soft and casual, I paired it with an oversized graphic sweater to keep it casual and laid back.

  • Under a Dress 6 of 13

Try layering the button up under a dress for a bit of pattern peeking through!

  • With Another Button-Up 7 of 13

I love layering button ups, especially a gingham or polka dot top under a chambray top.

Ok, this is totally 80's and 90's as well, but I had to try it out. I kept it more modern and feminine with a pair of strappy wedges, skinny jeans, and gold jewelry.

  • Pattern Mixing 9 of 13

I love me some good pattern mixing, and this gingham shirt is a perfect one to try it with. You might be nervous to try as bold as this, but a large floral print skirt or polka dot jeans would go great with it!

Find it at Old Navy for $11.97.

  • Top Shop Gingham 11 of 13

Also in black, but a smaller gingham print.

Find it at Nordstrom for $68.

Classic and perfect. Also, on sale!

  • Forever 21 Gingham 13 of 13

This one is identical, or very similar to the one I own. If it's the same one, it's a nice soft material so the collar isn't stiff, which makes it a little too mature-feeling to me. I LOVE it.

Find it at Forever 21 for $15.80.
