10 Ways to Wear A Cargo Vest

In the last year, cargo vests have become a staple in my wardrobe. My mom bought me a khaki one for Christmas a year ago, and then I refashioned an olive green one from a long sleeved utility jacket on my blog a few months ago. When I got both of mine I was sure I’d never wear them, but I’ve been shocked how much I love them.  Both have been super versatile, although the green one does get more use for me since I love the green color and it’s a little lighter weight. But either way, they’re both fantastic pieces that are a fun, unexpected layer, are are perfect for the hot months when you don’t want to wear a full jacket.

Let me share with you 10 ways I style and wear them — then go get yourself one (there’s a few good options at the end of the slide show!), or pull yours out of your closet and start wearing it!

Sometimes I'm worried about the bulkiness of a double collar, but this combination works well with the vest over a simple button up. I need to try it with my gingham button up too!

Another belted option is to leave the vest open a few inches and tie the belt around it. You get more of a peek at your top underneath, and it creates a totally different overall look than if the vest is completely zipped.

  • Old Navy Vest 12 of 14

This vest looks like a good lightweight option without too many pockets (which add bulk). It's a few inches longer than mine, but is a good color and an excellent price!

Find it at Old Navy for $29.94 (in Khaki and Army Green!)

  • J.Crew Factory Vest 13 of 14

This vest is a similar length to mine, a perfect color (in mine opinion), and still a good price. I also like that the collar can zip all the way up, but can also fold down into a normal collar. a

Find it at J.Crew Factory for $52.50.

  • Macy’s Vest 14 of 14

This vest is much more expensive, but looks like a great option. It also has raw edges at the shoulders which creates a more casual look.

Find it at Macy's for $149.
