On what was a regular day that included a few errands, a lunch, and some playdates, I decided it would be a fantastic time for River and me to try out a new trend. Red and pink. Combining the two. It seemed like something that could go totally left in terms of being put together (left = totally wrong), but it didn’t. I also thought it would remind me too much of Valentine’s Day and I would be turned off by that. Nope. In styling our “trendy” outfits on what was an ordinary day I also thought I wouldn’t find too much pink in my closet. Also, a no! I actually have lots of pinks and reds, much to my surprise. Despite having much of the colors needed for that day’s get-up, I only had the colors in prints, patterns, or distinctive styles. Like oxfords, or a pair of harem pants. Nothing seemed to mesh well, and that’s where the combining unlikely trends thing kicked in. After over-thinking a tad too much, I just went for it. It meaning throwing on a tribal muu muu, a denim jacket, and a pair of oxfords. Doesn’t it just sound bad? But it wasn’t! At least I think so.
River, on the other hand, had no shortage of pink or red. That’s what happens when you’re a girl living in a girly girl’s world. The pink and red just march their way on in, little by little.
Here’s how we incorporated the red and pink trend (mommy and me) on an ordinary day!
4 Ways We incorporated the Red and Pink Trend! 1 of 5
On an ordinary day, full of errands and what not, my daughter River and I decided to give the red and pink trend a try.
When in doubt throw on a bright lip 2 of 5
I have fallen hard for a colored lip. For a simple trend incorporation I decided to wear hot pink. It somehow blended in so well with my denim jacket. If you are going for a bold lip like mine, wear light makeup.
Sometimes a little goes a long way 3 of 5
Oh, to be a kid! The limits on mix and matching and sort-of kind-of looking like Where's Waldo are endless. And at the same time, sometimes it's the little things in regards to mixing trends. River's sweatshirt had the tiniest pink bow on it. Just enough to catch your eye, but not enough to make her outfit look too much like a Halloween costume.
Even out the brights with a dark 4 of 5
For me, that meant wearing a vintage denim jacket. For River, it meant wearing a pair of black converse.
Nail it 5 of 5
In the fall, when outfits tend to get dreary and the sky starts to get dark, then nail it. Your nails can easily be your trend setters if you let them. Choose pink or red nails to incorporate your red and pink trend. Or, if you're feeling savvy, mix up both at the same time!
