Somehow I ended up with TWO beach vacations scheduled for the month of May. I was way overdue for some sand between my toes (I couldn’t tell you the last time I even SAW a beach), so I was pretty darn excited.
I’m the type of person who starts mentally packing WEEKS before a trip. I’m always terrified of leaving something important behind or not having enough underwear to get me through. I started a packing list over a month before we were set to leave for the first trip so I had plenty of time to shop for the stuff I was missing!
Here are the 7 things that are bare style essentials for my beach vacations. Add a really good book and I’m ready to go!
A Hat to Keep the Sun off My Nose
I am fair, freckled, and have a family history of skin cancer. A hat with a decent brim is an absolute essential if I'm going to be spending any time in the sun!Check out these 6 stylish beach hats for under $20!
Easy (and Stylish!) Footwear
The beach is the sort of place where you're in and out of your shoes a lot. I can't stand having anything with buckles that takes more than just a second to slide on or off! Flip flops are acceptable beach footwear but I still prefer something a little nicer looking, like this pretty option with fun metallic detail!Get them from Target, $24.99
Don’t Forget a Swimsuit!
When I go to the beach I like to play in the waves with my boys, which means I need my swimsuit to be securely fastened to my person. I've been on the hunt for a new suit for months and I finally ordered this bikini top from Athleta. I am totally in love! It's super cute and my upper-half stayed safely under wraps even while getting rolled around by some pretty serious waves.Get it from Athleta, $56Or check out these 15 active bathing suits that are functional AND chic!
A Multipurpose Sundress
A cute sundress is so fun to have along! I prefer the type of dress that can be easily thrown over a swimsuit or paired with sandals to go out to dinner.Get it from Old Navy, $29.94
A Bag to Cart Your Stuff
This bag is perfect for carting a few beach essentials but it doesn't really scream BEACH ... you could carry it anywhere!Get it from Etsy, $138
A Beach Towel ... Yes, It Matters!
I bought myself a pretty new beach towel on clearance the other day. My husband raised an eyebrow and asked why I needed another beach towel when I had a perfectly serviceable one in the linen closet. I responded, "This one is pretty." I could see him fighting with the wisdom of asking, "Does it matter if your towel is pretty?" Yes, it matters! Also, my new one is HUGE, which is awesome for laying on the beach with my book. Get it from Zappos, $48
Sunglasses to Protect Your Eyes
I have light blue eyes and am completely nonfunctional without sunglasses. If you're going to be spending some quality time in the sun, consider going for a larger pair to protect both your eyes and the delicate skin around them. Also, before you pick a pair, make sure they have UVA/UVB protection!Get them from Sunglass Hut, $88
