Let’s talk about bras for a minute, since they are arguably the most important thing in a woman’s wardrobe. Bras that fit correctly improve your posture, flatter your body, boost confidence, and most of all, are comfortable! But statistics say that 85% of women are wearing the wrong bra size.
The most common reason for ill-fitting bras is you’ve had the same ones for far too long. Changes to our body — anything from weight gain/loss to having a baby — have a big effect on how your bra fits, yet we still keep the same bra for years. One of the best ways to fix this problem is to have yourself fitted by a bra specialist — Victoria’s Secret does this, as do many department stores!

7 Signs You’re Wearing the Wrong Bra Size 1 of 8
Many women are wearing the wrong bra size and have no idea. Click through to see if any of these are true for you, and find out how to get a better fit.
You Shouldn’t See Indentations 2 of 8
If the band digs into you — making your skin bulge or leaving red marks — it's too tight. You'll be much more comfortable moving up a band size (32, 34, 36, etc.). Alternatively, if the underwire is digging into your skin it is the cup that is too small.
Are You Machine Washing? 3 of 8
If you're seeing bumps in your bra (this is most easily seen when wearing a t-shirt), the most common reason is the cups are too big. The excess fabric wrinkles up and can create lumps. Another reason can be from machine washing your bra, so be sure to avoid this by gently hand washing to get the longest life out of it.
Those Should Stay Put! 4 of 8
This is a common problem that is easily overlooked. The straps on your bra are important to how the entire piece fits you. If your straps are slipping off your shoulders, it is most likely that you just haven't adjusted them to the proper fit. Wear them tight enough to support well, but not to the point that they dig into your skin. If you're still having issues with the straps sliding off, it may be that the straps are stretched out from too much wear, and you just need a new bra!
You Don’t Want Any Gaps 5 of 8
If the center of the band lifts up off your skin, the cups of the bra are too small! This is one of the most common problems. Moving up a cup size should fix the problem, but since no two bodies are alike, sometimes the style of the bra can be the culprit. Try finding a better fitting style if moving up a size doesn't do the trick.
One Straight Line 6 of 8
The back of the band should be a straight line across your back and parallel to the ground. If it is curving up your back you most likely have your straps pulled too tight. It could also mean your band is too big and you need to move down a size. It should be easy to determine which of these is causing the problem!
It Runneth Over 7 of 8
If any breast tissue is spilling out of the top or sides of the cup — even just a little bit — you definitely need to move up a cup size! The cup of your bra should completely contain all of your breast tissue.
Get Rid of it! 8 of 8
If your bra is causing pain, then it definitely isn't the right fit! Often times ladies think that there is no avoiding being uncomfortable in a bra, but that isn't the case at all. A well-fitting bra should be comfortable enough that you don't notice it at all. Figuring out which style best suits your body, and finding the right fit should fix this for good!
