Lately my husband and I have become obsessed with finding the perfect weekender bags for ourselves. I’m not sure why…it’s not like we’ve suffered from NOT owning one or two. But we got the idea in our heads and now we are stuck on it. Almost every time I glanced over Aaron’s shoulder at his iPad this weekend he was comparing bag options.
I recently went to Paris with my mom and sister for 4 days (with a day of travel on each end) and I almost bought a weekender bag before I left. As I was cramming six days worth of outfits into the only (tiny!) bag I own that qualifies as a carry-on I had myself a good kicking over the fact that I walked away from that weekender! They’re super handy for shorter trips (or longer, if you’re a ninja packer!) and often fit in the overhead compartment. Perfect!
What to look for in an ideal weekender bag:
Sturdy construction. If it seems at all delicate, walk away! I’ve seen a few weekenders that were super pretty but seriously lacking in practicality and sturdiness. This bag has to survive your trunk, rough baggage handlers, the overhead compartment or possibly those awful luggage carousels at baggage claim. You need a bag that can get thrown around!
Pockets. I’m a big believer in pockets for everything, but they are particularly important in luggage. You don’t want your car keys, passport or dramamine sliding down and getting lost in the depths of your bag. You’ll find yourself frantically digging and having to pull your carefully packed skivvies out at the worst possible time (this is experience talking).
Handles. If at all possible, you want TWO sets of handles—a short double set and a longer strap. This gives you several different options for carrying so that your shoulders and hands don’t get too worn out.
Here are 8 stylish weekender bag options that will take you to the beach, the mountains, or anywhere else you want to go:

Cuyana 2 of 9
This gorgeous Turkish-made bag is generously sized and comes in mustard and black. I love the slouchy silhouette since I'm a big fan of bags that I can shove into places. It doesn't have pockets (sad face) BUT it does have a gorgeous orange lining. I know the lining color shouldn't actually matter but... it does. It also has perfect handles and I love that the shoulder strap is removable!

Herschel 3 of 9
This gorgeous Herschel duffle has a built-in zipped shoe compartment, which is just about the most genius thing ever. Packing shoes in such a way that they don't dirty up my clothes is something I've never quite mastered.
Find it at Herschel for $79.99
Herschel 2 4 of 9
Herschel also offers a line of slightly smaller duffel bags in fun colors! They don't have the zippered shoe compartment but is it worth it for a super cute yellow bag at a great price? Yes. Yes it is.
Find it at Zappos for $51.99
Everlane 5 of 9
Everlane's weekender bag is a classic looking option available in NINE colors. (It's also my top choice. I'm a huge Everlane fan.) It's made of durable canvas and has a couple different pockets for stashing essentials.

Haan 6 of 9
This Cole Haan duffel is made of durable canvas with leather accents. I love that it's perfectly unisex. Both my husband and I went, "Ooooh!" when we saw it.

Forever 21 7 of 9
This faux leather option is super affordable but the details and slouchy silhouette make it look like you paid more. Also, studs along the bottom help keep the bottom of your bag from getting beat up!
Find it at Forever 21 for $34.80
Baccini 8 of 9
Handmade from genuine leather. A total steal at $100! This is the one my husband ended up ordering and it's gorgeous! I love the two-toned handles.

Urban Outfitters 9 of 9
This bag is a little smaller—more of an overnight bag than a weekender—but I LOVE that print. It also has two strap options, multiple pockets, and a guilt-free vegan leather bottom and accents. Perfect!
