8 Style Ideas for a New Year's Eve House Party

FacebookTwitterGoogle+TumblrPinterest

I love those “What to wear on New Year’s Eve” posts that abound this time of year! They are total eye-candy with their fancy dresses, sequins, and heavy-duty jewelry. However, as much as I would love to attend a party that requires a cocktail dress, I don’t think I’ve ever been invited to such an event. I generally spend New Year’s Eve with friends or my family at a low-key house party with yummy food, lots of laughs, and the Times Square ball drop on TV. When I ask what I should wear, the answer is, invariably, “Whatever you want!” But even for a casual party, New Year’s Eve calls for at least a little bit of glam, right? So here are eight casual outfits with a splash (or two!) of glam to make them appropriate for just about any casual New Year’s Eve event you may be invited to.

  • Jeans and a Tee 2 of 9
    Leather-and-Denim

If you're a die-hard jeans and tee wearer then just add a blazer (love the fun leather detail on this one) and some heels. Don't forget a statement watch for a little shine (don't have one? Check out my post 10 Gorgeous Women's Watches Worth Investing In)!

  • Maxi and Metallic Details 3 of 9

Sometimes simple is the way to go! A simple tee shirt maxi dress gets a bit of shine from a metallic belt and bangles.

  • Tulle and a Statement Necklace 4 of 9
    Tulle and a Cropped Jacket

Tulle and a big, sparkly statement necklace are plenty glam but they get dressed down when paired with a slouchy pocket tee and cropped utility jacket.

  • Thermal and Sparkle 5 of 9
    Thermal-and-Bangles

A comfy thermal and skirt combo gets a bit of glam from heeled booties and an armful of sparkly bangles.

  • Comfy Tuxedo 6 of 9
    Blazer Goes Tuxedo

Tuxedos are the height of fancy dress...unless they're tuxedo leggings with a tuxedo inspired tunic in which case you're faking fancy while actually feeling incredibly comfy.

(Pssst...you can DIY your own Tuxedo leggings!)

  • Sequins and Chambray 7 of 9
    Sequins and Chambray

Chambray is comfy AND casual, perfect for toning down a sequin skirt.

  • Plaid and Denim 8 of 9
    Plaid-and-Glam

Plaid and denim get an unexpected boost of glam from a big gold collar necklace, red lips and heels. Comfy chic!

  • Leather and a Sweater 9 of 9
    Leather-and-Knit

Leather pants pretty much scream PARTY TIME so tone them down with a comfy, oversized sweater, a tousled pony, and sparkly flats.
