Don’t put away your whites just yet! Yesterday may have been labor day, but even if you aren’t a fashion rebel, there are some really easy ways to stretch your white clothing and accessories well into fall and even winter. The spirit of the original no-white-after-Labor-Day rule is to dial down the Summertime vibes and usher in colors more compatible with darker days. You can still keep things seasonally appropriate, though, without forsaking all things white. In addition to implementing winter whites into your fall rotation, I have a few ideas from my wardrobe that will make wearing white after Labor Day easier than ever!
9 Ways I Wear White After Labor Day 1 of 10
White Dress 2 of 10
Late summer and early fall is a great time to get the last wear out of your white dresses until they get packed away for inter. Make them seasonably appropriate by wearing a cozy vest or sweater and a pair of booties.
White Belt 3 of 10
White belts can hang out all year, as far as I'm concerned! They add a nice pop of contrast with darker dresses, and are perfect for belting a warm, cozy cardigan. This white belt is extra acceptable because it's more of an ivory hue- a safe, winter white.
White Tights 4 of 10
I wouldn't be caught dead in tights on a hot summer day. These cotton knit tights were made for post-Labor-Day wear, and yes! They're white. They're a totally acceptable addition to a fall outfit, and even a winter one. I like to wear these off-white tights with lighter-hued shoes, so there's not too much of a contrast, which might make them awkwardly stand out from an otherwise dark outfit.
White Shirt 5 of 10
White shirts are another acceptable wardrobe item to leave out all year long. In the fall and winter, I love to layer white shirts under sweaters, jumper dresses, overalls, and sleeveless dresses.
White Boots 6 of 10
White boots are an uncommon post-Labor-Day item, but I love the quirky touch they add to a cool weather dress when paired with my white cotton tights. For the end of summer and early fall, though, I wear them bare-legged with a short dress.
White Ascot Bow 7 of 10
Brighten up an outfit- especially a vintage dress- with a white ascot bow. An accessory like this is also great to tie in with other white things in your outfit, like white tights, white boots, or a white hat. This ascot bow is just a long thin scarf that I pinned to my dress and tied in a bow. It also works as a headband or headscarf.
White Sweater 8 of 10
A white cardigan works as a solo element when buttoned all the way up. But it's also great to wear layered over patterned shirts with a nice seasonal neck scarf. White sweaters are also perfect for buttoning over or pulling over a pretty summer dress to make it acceptable for fall and winter.
White Blazer 9 of 10
A winter white blazer is a great accessory for fall and inter. They go great over lightweight dresses, letting you keep them out a bit longer after summer is over, and are also a great polishing touch for a casual outfit such as jeans and a T-shirt. Winter white blazers are definitely acceptable to wear after Labor Day, and would be a wardrobe staple for any professional gal.
White Hat 10 of 10
A white hat is the perfect winter accessory, if you ask me! Especially this fluffy angora beret. It's a great element to tie in with other white in an outfit, like white tights, white boots, or a white shirt.
