As a brand new writer for Babble, I think before anything else that introductions are in order! I’m Merrick and I live in Huntington Beach, California with my husband and our two little boys, 3-years-old and 8-months-old respectively!
When I was working with a limited budget as a newlywed, I dusted off my sewing machine and started refashioning thrift store finds, as well as old clothing in my closet, to make pieces that were more flattering and trendy. Now, nearly seven years later, I’m creating my own patterns, sharing tutorials, and styling my handmade, refashioned, and store-bought clothing over on my blog, Merrick’s Art.
As a mom in my mid-20s, I feel like my style is always morphing, but if I had to sum it up in a few words I’d say colorful, uncomplicated, and a little bit adventurous. (That’s what your 20s are for, right?) And while I love to shop, I’m also very frugal and I have to buy groceries, so in addition to all sorts of styling ideas and tips, I’ll be sharing how to find amazing looks for less, making the most out of the pieces you already have in your closet, avoiding costly shopping mistakes, and much more!
Also, since we’re on the subject of style, I feel so lucky to start sharing my ideas with you right in the middle of the summer! Although I love fall outfits with boots, sweaters, and scarves, here in Huntington Beach we get temperate weather pretty much year round so I’ve been building up my summery wardrobe.
Here are the top 5 wardrobe essentials for summer that I think every woman should have in her closet!
