BARE: A Cool Eco-Accessories Collection by Jessica Biel’s Brother

bare bags main

After receiving a burlap coffee sack from his father who had been working in Costa Rica with EARTH University, Grason Ratowsky was inspired to create the eco-accessories company BARE and the BARE Burlap Collection with his best friend and travel buddy, Justin Biel, who just so happens to be Jessica Biel’s brother.

BARE is a socially responsible eco-accessories line handmade in Colorado, where the friends-turned-business partners grew up, that is based on authentic, simplistic, and functional ideals with designs that embrace necessity and global utility.

The company sources repurposed burlap coffee sacks from their local roasters, and with a combination of up-cycled and high quality materials, hand makes limited collection runs in their local Denver manufacturing facility. The prints, designs and markings on the BARE Burlap Collection, which are unique to each and every bag they make, display the real, unaltered life story of the coffee sacks from which their distinct design element originated.

” The BARE Burlap Collection is for the traveler in us all. It speaks to our desires for exploration, adventure, and new experiences. It’s a point of connection between ancient traditions and craftsmanship, modern day elegance and simplistic design. “

The BARE Coban Fold Over Clutch gets its name from the region of Guatemala nestled in the Chama Mountains near ancient Mayan ruins and highlights the region's coffee producing roots. This little clutch is perfect for your everyday essentials and has a really cool utilitarian feel.

Built to last a lifetime, this all in one traveling duffel bag pays homage to the Mexican coffee producing region at the base of the Sierra Madre Mountains.   I love the hand-stitching up the side. And while it's a bit pricey, I think those looking for a one-of-a-kind weekender or travel bag will have no problem forking over the cash knowing the sustainability and social consciousness behind it and will be proud to carry it.

  • BARE SALENTO REVERSIBLE TOTE 4 of 5

The Salento tote gets its artistic nature and earthy feel from Salento, Colombia; a region immersed in a culture of artisans, agriculture and coffee production.  This tote, that offers reversible design options, is the perfect carry-all for Farmer's Market purchases and general shopping. I tend to get overloaded with shopping bags, so I love to bring my own and have no waste when I return home. The size of this is perfect for that.

  • BARE TACUBA ROLLTOP BACKPACK 5 of 5
    bare-bag-4

The BARE Tacuba Rolltop Backpack hails from the mountainous coffee region of El Salvador, an area surrounded by lush forests, volcanoes and crisscrossing dirt trails.  Too bad the holidays are over because this rustic backpack would be such a perfect gift for so many globe-trotting hipsters.  I love the mix of burlap with the leather on all the bags, but this one really nails it.
