DIY Leather Chevron Necklace

On any given day you’ll mostly likely find me wearing a necklace I made a couple years ago with scrap leather and a few other items I had left over from previous projects. It was super simple to make but I constantly have people asking where I bought it so I thought it was time to make a tutorial to share with the world! You can find similar styles all over the web and probably even at stores but I swear this will be one of the easiest DIY’s you’ll ever do so try it out! Make one for yourself or to give to a friend as a christmas gift—or both! Click through the slideshow below to see how to make this DIY leather chevron necklace:

  • Supplies 2 of 12

    You'll need:

    Scrap leather

    Necklace chain—I used a 24" chain

Metal rings (found next to necklace chain at a craft store)

    Wall tack

    and your chevron shape pattern

  • Trace 3 of 12

Draw your chevron shape onto a piece of card stock and use that as your pattern piece. Place your pattern piece on the backside of the leather scraps and trace three different pieces.

  • Cut all pieces 4 of 12

Cut out your three chevron shapes

  • Pierce holes 5 of 12

Use the tack to make holes where you'll need to attach the metal rings.

  • Holes 6 of 12

The top and middle one will have four holes (as shown) and the bottom one will have just two.

  • Metal rings 7 of 12

Open the metal rings and attach to the leather pieces, connecting them all

  • All metal rings in place 8 of 12

It should look like this when all the rings are in place!

  • Attach chain 9 of 12

Attach your chain to the top metal ring, on each side!

  • Straighten 10 of 12

The leather can stretch and get a little wonky so straighten the pieces out as much as you can.

  • Finished! 11 of 12

    And you're done! Amazingly simple!

  • My daily necklace 12 of 12

I wear the one I made myself almost every day. It goes with everything and I guarantee you'll get complimented on ALL THE TIME. I hope you'll try it out and let me know if you do!
