It’s finally starting to cool down in Arizona, which means it’s time for me to really start considering fall fashion for myself! Normally I am only minimally interested in going clothes shopping (especially since I have kids in tow most days. No thanks). And THEN the seasons change. As soon as the temperature starts to rise or drop a bit it’s all I can do to rein in my inner shopaholic. Shopping sounds fun again when you have a new season to work with!
Unfortunately, I AM on a budget that does not care one bit whether or not I want an entirely new wardrobe for fall, so I have to be smart about what I pick up. I think long and hard about what trends I want to embrace and which I can leave behind and then I scour wallet-friendly stores for pieces I love that will work with what I’ve already got. It’s not as fun as shopping with reckless abandon, but there’s definitely some joy in the hunt! I generally end up with things I really love without any serious wallet-related guilt.
Here are four fall fashions I love and some budget pieces that will keep you on trend and under budget.
Fall Fashion on the Cheap 1 of 25

Leather 2 of 25
My favorite fall trend! I've got a soft spot for leather (and a fair amount of it in my closet to prove it). I do tend to reach for faux leather though. Because, you know, cows. And it costs way less!
Leather Sleeve Blazer 3 of 25
I grabbed my leather-sleeved H&M blazer off the clearance rack back in July, but apparently they've brought it back! Lucky you, because it's fantastic and affordable even when it's NOT on clearance. It's got just enough leather to be on trend but not SO much that you feel like you need to join a biker gang.
Leather Ball Cap 4 of 25
This one is a trend two-fer! Hit the leather and sporty trends in one with this fab cap. Also, keep your head warm and cover up a bad hair day. For less than $10. There is NO downside here.
Charlotte Russe, $8.99
Leather Jacket 5 of 25
If you're looking for something with a little more edge (and warmth) than a blazer, try this asymmetrical faux leather jacket. I own this particular one and can vouch for its awesomeness.
Leather Pencil Skirt 6 of 25
Leather pants feel like such a BIG commitment. A skirt is a little more accessible, but with the same cool factor! I love it with a B&W graphic tee.
Colored Leather 7 of 25
Pastel has been a bit of a surprise trend for fall. Leather + pastel? Why not!
Forever 21, $22.50
Military 8 of 25
Go all out with camo pants or just a little with a cap. Either way, you'll be looking sharp (and, hey! You can even pair it with your leather!).
Military Cap 9 of 25
These types of hats are total classics. I've had a simliar one for years and it has never gone out of style. I love the way it looks with a messy braid.
Forever 21, $10.80
Camo Skinnies 10 of 25
No need to go for baggy cargos- camo pants are very feminine when you skinny them up!
Charlotte Russe, $30 (on sale)
Military Jacket 11 of 25
Camo Toms 12 of 25
Be comfy, trendy, AND charitable in these awesome camo TOMS. When you buy a pair they donate a pair of shoes to a person in need!
Military Tunic 13 of 25
Silky fabric with military details. Sold!
Graphic Black and White 14 of 25
Black and white is totally my comfort zone (add blue and you have my wardrobe for most of the past 28 years). I'm thrilled it's so big this fall! It's also wonderfully accessible- I doubt there are many people who think they CAN'T pull off a graphic B&W tee or ensemble.
DIY Black and White 15 of 25
This trend is super DIY-able!
Feed Me Tee 16 of 25
Is it a little silly? Yes. Do I want it anyway? Absolutely.
Forever 21, $13.80
Scribble Cardigan 17 of 25
Perfect with black leggings. Not to mention a good layering piece for when it gets really chilly!
Geo Body Con Dress 18 of 25
You have to be pretty self-confident to pull off a skin-tight dress like this (spanx, anyone?). However, the fun pattern offers great distraction from lumps and bumps, so give it a try! It would be awesome paired with a leather jacket.
Wet Seal, $24.90
Graphic Skirt 19 of 25
This reminds me of calligraphy. I would wear it in a heartbeat.
ASOS, $13.50 (on sale)
Geometric 20 of 25
I love geometric clothing and jewelry! It doesn't hurt that the geometric trend pairs so well with B&W AND leather. All my favorite things! It IS slooowly on its way out but you can still totally pull off these affordable pieces for fall.
Geometric Batwing Cardigan 21 of 25
I have it and I love it. A perfectly cozy fall piece!
Geometric Sunglasses 22 of 25
Just because it's cooling down doesn't mean you can stop protecting your eyes! Keep a bit of summer cool in your fall wardrobe with these geometric sunglasses.
Geometric Flats 23 of 25
I want these. Bad.
Geometric Leggings 24 of 25
Bright leggings are unexpected- and fun!- in cooler weather.
Hexagon Hoops 25 of 25
Geometric jewelry is one of my fav ways to get on board with this trend. Big hoops are always stylish- these hexagons are a fun twist!
