A few weeks ago I opened my weekly Barneys NY newsletter email and fell in love with the image of this 1960’s mod, biker chic look styled for shopping inspiration. Sure black, white and red is a classic combo, but I love the white on white base, only using the black and red as pops of color, and the cool vibe it carried.
So of course I clicked through the shop. Only to find the price tags to be just a wee bit out of budget.
Bag | Proenza Schouler PS Courier $1475
Jacket | Etoile Isabel Marant Leather Moto Jacket $1210
Sweater | Chloe Lace sleeve Sweater $1250
Pants | Cedric Charlier Trousers $795
Shoes | Manolo Blahnik Snakeskin Pumps $865
All From Barneys NY
But as I flipped through the items longer and referenced the first photo for style inspiration, I realized I had items in my very own closet to not copy this look exactly, but to get the feel and the mood of the ensemble.
Here’s what I came up with…
Sure I used a blouse instead of a lace-sleeved sweater and jeans instead of cropped wool trousers, and striped pumps rather than snake print, but I liked the look I achieved and thought if I could find all these items in my own closet, surely you could too.
But if not, I sourced some pretty great pieces that would do the trick for a fraction of the cost.
My Look for Less…
Pants | White Skinny Jeans by Madewell on sale for $69.30
Blouse | My white blouse is by Rachel Zoe but is sadly unavailable, you can wear a white sweater as well but my goal was to get the “pouf sleeve” look at the wrist so I’ve found a similar white button down Blouse with Banded Hem for $37.33
Leather Jacket | Mine is a vintage patchwork leather jacket I found for under $10 over ten years ago, but this Quilted Faux Leather Jacket for $89 looks a bit more like my inspiration photo for a fraction of the price.
What do you think? Is the original outfit worth the $5,595 price tag or did I do an okay job shopping my own closet and finding a look for less at a total $269.60 for a savings of $5325.40?
