Go from Day to Night in a PinchRachel Matos
Back in July (my birthday month) I was hired as a contributor for Babble Beauty. My first post was all about tips for turning 40. Since then, I’ve been creating natural beauty remedies, preaching about the importance of skin protection, and painting my face like Disney characters and scary Spanish brides.
I’m an art historian and portrait artist (even though it’s been a while since I painted) for close to 20 years, and the mom to a very awesome 14-year-old boy. I’m originally from New York, but I now live in Los Angeles. Long story short, I started blogging in 2009 or 2010. Shortly after, I met Ana Flores, who asked me if I could help her with a few projects happening at her new company Latina Bloggers Connect. And the rest is history! My job includes everything from writing, photography, traveling, and meetings to managing different aspects of our campaigns and social media initiatives. My day-to-day is very different. And that is what I plan to tackle here as a new Style Contributor for Babble.
Starting with going from day to night in a pinch. The other day, I had everything on my list from work to appointments, and parent/teacher meetings in between. I’m a firm believer that your closet should have a nice variety of tried and true basics in easy to match colors than can be switched up with accessories. In the picture below, I’m wearing a peplum top, which is a nice way to spruce up a casual day look, and skinnies for my basic pieces. A pair of animal print flats go a long way, as well as a chunky necklace.
If you have 30 minutes to go from day to night (usually all I ever have it seems), you can keep your basics on but play them up. Nude pumps/strappies and a neutral purse/satchel are must-haves … or you can try something like the bag I have, which goes from tote to satchel in just two snaps! It’s also great to have black, white, and neutral colored blazers in your closet to dress up your basic look. Add a bit of sparkle and done! Sounds simple, but I will be back with slideshows and body conscious outfits (I’m kind of obsessed with silhouettes) that will suit a variety of lifestyles!
I’m so happy to join the talented team of Babble Style Bloggers. Until the next post!
