Many women who are petite, or shorter than average, dream of having legs for days (so to speak). We may have advantages to our stature, like dresses not being too short or the ability to wear platform heels without looking like we’re on stilts, but there’s still something to be said about longer legs. As someone who is on the shorter side, I’ve learned a few tips on how to give the illusion of longer legs, and spoiler alert: it isn’t just sky-high heels.
Here are my top 3 tips on how to elongate your legs!
1. Start Your Legs at Your Waist
High-waisted bottoms are your best friend when it comes to making your legs look longer — especially high-waisted pants! I have a really long torso, so I use this trick all the time to subtract some torso length, and add it to my legs.
2. Go Monochromatic
Match your pants/tights to the color of your shoes! This gives the illusion of your legs extending to the tips of your toes. If you’re going bare-legged, wear nude shoes!
3. Lower the Vamp
When it comes to shoes and adding length to your legs, it is less about the height of the shoes and more about the lowness of the vamp (the part of the shoe that goes across the top of your foot). When you wear ankle boots or strappy heels it cuts off your leg at the ankle, which can make us short-legged folks look even shorter. In this case, a pair of flats can make your legs look longer than your highest heels.
