Modern Day Cinderella Looks via …love Maegan Cinderella Costume inspired by Disney Classic Cinderella Movie

What I realized while working on these fun modern-day Cinderella looks, inspired by Disney’s original animated movie from 1950, is that as long as I had the hair and makeup down, the black choker around my neck, headband and earrings on, any outfit would look Cinderella-esque as long as it was in the white, blue, and/or silver color spectrum.

I could have literally worn jeans and a white t-shirt and called it Cinderella Off Duty, and the hair and accessories would have carried the look. But it was fun to sort of think If Cinderella were a real girl and alive today, what would she wear? And while I pulled items from my own closet to create these two looks with no expense, these are relatively easy outfits to recreate and even hand-make or DIY yourself.

But let’s begin with accessories…

It’s difficult to tell what color headband Cinderella actually wears in the movie. Sometimes it looks light blue and sometimes it looks white and I suppose old & inconsistent animation is to blame. But whatever the case, I had a white satin headband I found at a craft store lying around and it worked well. A wide satin ribbon will do the trick too. Stick to white, ice blue, and silver in shimmery satins to get the look. You can buy a Satin Headband in white for $6.99 at Amazon.

In the movie, Cinderella’s headband is connected to her earrings, which is odd, but to get a similar look, wear large studded crystal or pearl earrings. I chose large clustered pearl earrings to match the white headband, but large faux diamond or crystal disc/studs would work just as well. I suggest matching your earrings to your headband and avoid anything dangly.

I found a few great, inexpensive pairs of earrings that will do the trick here: Crystal Floral Earrings for $5.40 at Asos and these Peacock Feather W. Clear Teardrop Crystal and Rhinestones Stud Earrings for $16.95. But I’m sure you have some in your own collection (or your grandma’s) that will work.

I just so happen to have this Jenny Yoo bridesmaid dress I chose and wore in my brother’s wedding in 2007 and due to the silvery-blue shantung hue, the simple and classic, yet pretty and demure style, it was PERFECT for my modern-day Cinderella Evening look.

Sure Cinderella wore a glass slipper, but glass shoes are nearly impossible to walk in and anything in a clear plastic or lucite alternative just reads stripper to me and Cinderella was classy. Any sort of shimmery iced satin silver, white, or blue pump will do or even a silver strappy sandal (scroll down to see my shopping guide for details). I chose to wear my blue satin Salvatore Ferragamo pumps seen above and even donned a pretty blue eye mask I bought years above at the Cirque du Soleil shop in Vegas. Buy the Zumanity Eye Mask $119 {only available in black}

Cinderella’s Everyday Casual Look…

For my casual look, I played off of Cinderella’s final Princess look rather than her original daily look, which consisted of a brown and mint green dress with an apron and black flats. I kept my hair long and simply paired skinny jeans with a soft and fluttery ice blue top along with cute flats to complete the look (scroll down to see my shopping guide for details).

By wearing the headband, choker, and earrings, I was still able to keep the Cinderella look even without the big bun.

Any cute light-colored ballet flats will work. These Crocs were the only light colored flats I had, but the silver worked well with the look and if I really think about Cinderella doing housework and chores, she’d probably be wearing some sort of very functional and very comfortable shoes like these. But I’ve found some really REALLY cute alternatives in my shopping guide below.
