Movie Style Muse: Liv Tyler in Stealing Beauty

Stealing Beauty is one of my all-time favorite movies. It won my heart over as a young adult in the late 90′s and even now when I watch it {because I do every time it’s on} I immediately want to pack my bags and get on the next plane to Italy.

Liv Tyler Stealing Beauty Style-movie muse style

Liv Tyler’s wardrobe for her role as Lucy Harmon in Stealing Beauty mostly consisted of floaty floral dresses and bare feet, or skirts and easy lace-up Bensimon tennis shoes, a cross between sneakers and brogues. My favorite look of hers, which she wears in a few different scenes (some with her hair down and wind-blown and others with her hair in a loose braid), is the floaty-layered, A-line, red polka dotted skirt paired with an almost ill-fitting tied up blouse and, of course, a light beige pair of classic Bensimon lace-ups. But it’s not just the simple pieces that make this look work, it’s the easy elegance and carefree spirit that it exudes… exactly like you’d picture yourself while frolicking around the Italian countryside.

And like every decade past, the 1990s are now included as a viable source for fashion and style inspiration. Many of the original styles are now available in stores and online making it a bit easier to get the look. But do hit up your local thrift shops, Etsy, and/or Ebay for original 90s styles you can pick up for a fraction of the cost.
