River Mae's Top 10 Favorite Items of Clothing

Having a two-year-old is so much fun. When River Mae was little, I bought and picked out all of her outfits that she would wear daily. Lately, that has changed.

With her age comes a huge level of communication on her part. She voices her opinions when she feels she needs to and when she wants to. And with that being said, most of her opinions are regarding her clothing. Despite my efforts to pick out her clothes at night and assist her in getting dressed in the morning, she insists on doing her own thing. Most days her outfits don’t match with the temperatures. Other days they do, but she’s worn that same outfit (by her request) one too many times in that week. As much as I cringe while watching her insist on wearing rain boots, underwear, and that old raggity sweatshirt that she can no longer fit in, I love it as well. Seeing her confidence and style shine through at only two years old is pretty amazing to watch.

She already has a few favorites, and fortunately for me, I like them too. Here are River Mae’s top 10 favorite items of clothing!

  • River Mae’s top 10 favorite items of clothing 1 of 11

At 2 1/2 + River Mae has grown to dress herself and love certain pieces of clothing. Here are her top 10 favorite pieces!

  • Yellow mod dress 2 of 11

This dress is mostly a shirt, but we try to get away with what we can. I like how it grabs your eye in the best possible way, and River likes that it has pockets to store all of her rocks.

  • A denim shirt 3 of 11

Despite this shirt being one of her oldest, it's still one of her favorites. She mostly likes to wear it open with a shirt underneath. The other day she even requested that I tie it around her waist.

  • A "princess dress" 4 of 11

Anyone who wears a dress is a princess. Hence, River requests a "princess dress" every morning.

  • Anything floral 5 of 11

If it's floral, and if it's wearable, it's River's. She has a hardcore love for flowers in general. I find that I am in constant awe of it all.

  • Vintage sweater 6 of 11
    L.A Part 29

This orange vintage sweater hangs in River's room. It's one of the first things you see; instantly brightening up her room. I believe we both like it for that reason. It's fun, its bright, it's River.

  • Vintage Overalls 7 of 11

Anything with pockets can usually win River over. These overalls are one of her favorites because of their tiny front pocket. Pockets, pockets, pockets...they always win.

  • Bathing Suit 8 of 11

"Baving Soup Mama!!" Is what I usually hear from River Mae. This happens every morning (if she doesn't get her way with a princess dress), every afternoon (if she sees water anywhere), and every night (we have given in some nights and she has worn it to sleep once... or twice... who's counting) ha.

But really, I'm not sure what we will do when fall comes and I no longer have a bathing suit stashed in my bag. It will be a hard break-up I tell you.

  • Leggings 9 of 11

Even though she calls them pants, River is absolutely in love with this particular pair of red and white striped leggings.

  • A tutu 10 of 11

Upon River's grandparents visit earlier this summer, she received this pink tutu from one of her great aunts. Since then, this tutu has been the center of many imaginary princess, ballerina, magic days. It is pretty wonderful to see her mind wonder because of one garment.

  • Vintage rain coat 11 of 11

Around our house we look forward to rainy days. River received this rain coat upon her birth, and ever since she could fit it, it has been her favorite thing to wear. Hands down.
