Spring Essentials: The Versatile Jacket

Last week I got a promotional email from Gap telling me what 5 items I needed to purchase for spring. As it turns out, all 5 of them were pieces that I’d already added to my closet within the last year. And I can vouch for the fact that they’re truly essentials, because I have gotten a ton of use out of each of them. So let’s talk about what they are and how to wear them. First up, the versatile jacket.

I got my army green utility jacket over a year ago and, along with my black leather jacket, it’s my most worn outerwear piece. It’s a perfect compliment to any outfit and it’s slightly unexpected, easy to dress up or down, and super comfortable. I love it with a simple tee for chilly days at the park with my boys, or over a blouse for date night. Also it’s perfect with jeans, and darling with a dress. It really is an essential. And for those spring days that are warm during the day but chilly at night? This jacket is a perfect choice. Have I convinced you that you need one yet?!

  • With A Maxi Dress 2 of 11

Those colorful maxi dresses are perfect for spring, but sometimes you need a light jacket to keep you warm when it cools down at night. A utility jacket is the perfect option because it adds a cool, casual vibe.

Just make sure that you watch your proportions with this combination, since these jackets are often oversized and maxi dresses can be a bit shapeless. Belt your dress if needed to create a defined waist, or wear your maxi dresses that aren't quite as wide and flowy.
