Brooke and I are really excited to start blogging for Babble! We love to experiment with style and keep up with what’s happening in fashion. Being mothers, we also like to approach what we wear with simplicity and practicality in mind. Our articles will be fun, inspirational, informative, but also attainable. We like to know what’s going on in the world of fashion, but we also don’t let it rule our lives. We embrace your individuality and creativity as part of your own diverse voice. We don’t want you to imitate what we do, but we do want to give you ideas and freedom to find what works for you, your body and your lifestyle. Before we get right into it, we thought we would start with a quick introduction.
The Girls With Glasses are made up of Brooke White (Songstress, American Idol Survivor, Actress and all-around creative chica) and Summer Bellessa (Model, Actress, and Producer of Fabulous Things). We make videos about things that interest us, you know, How To Tie Scarves, Interviewing Cool People, Motherhood, Traveling, Shoes, Cupcakes, etc. etc. You can check out our theme song “I Am A Girl,” which we wrote and recorded, then had Angela + Ithyle direct a stop motion video for, HERE!
Together the Girls With Glasses style is colorful, peppy, full of polka dots, stripes and the more sparkles the better, but as individuals our style is a little different. How? Let us tell you.

Where are you from and does that influence your style? I’m originally born and raised in the Arizona desert, but most of my life dreamed of living on the West coast. At 20 years old I packed up my green jeep and headed to LA, and I’ve been here ever since. After living in the La La Land for ten years, I would say my style reflects that of a California girl. The dreamy-bohemy-vintage-artsy-eclectic thing is what I love and gravitate towards. I suppose my taste in fashion is about as colorful and diverse as the state I live in, I love a little bit of everything, I’m not really a minimalist. Usually you will find me somewhere in the 70’s, wishing I was a lady of the canyon, like Carole or Joni. But whatever I am doing or going, I dress the part… painting and farmers market, make it a mumu, playing my piano at the hotel cafe give me barefeet and a floorlength dress, mom on the go get me in a grey tshirt and my black skinnies with a lot of stretch tucked in my old boots, a meeting, probably a white button down and tweed trousers, girls with glasses put me in a mod shift dress with some tall tall shoes. And whatever it is I’m wearing, you bet your buns it was a smokin’ deal. Like California, style is an adventure. It’s creative, expressive… it’s art.
Who is your favorite fashion icon? And why? I’ve never really had a fashion icon!? Why? I don’t know, I supposed I just like too many looks, instead of looking at what people were wearing I just looked for something I liked and felt authentic to who I am and emulated my truest self. This is the shortest answer I’ve ever given! Ha!
If you had to pick one outfit to wear for the rest of your life what would it be? I am absolutely incapable of picking just one thing for the rest of my life. This question stresses me out. Do I have to? Okay, probably the grey v-neck t-shirt, a pair of worn long lean bootcut jeans with a turquoise belt buckle, leather platform wedges and a good ‘ol hat. Wait, or maybe a long breezy dress. Jammies could be great too.

Where are you from and does that influence your style? I am from the Chicago-area, which is known for it’s sports teams, stunning architecture, and friendly residents. If it had influenced my fashion choices, it would be in my love for beautifully constructed items that are comfy and accessible. Chicagoans are all about being comfortable. There are a lot of sweatshirts and workout shoes being rocked in Chicago. I don’t own a Michael Jordan jersey, but recently I have loved mixing something casual with something dressy: a grey sweatshirt with costume jewelry, vintage tee with circle skirt, keds with black skinny pants. Comfy and on trend? Yes please.
Who is your favorite fashion Icon? And Why? My all-time favorite fashion is Audrey Hepburn. She had everything: the best taste in fashion, endless acting chops, heart of gold and was a great mom. Her life was stylish and pretty, but she knew what was important to her life. That is the type of person I aim to be, fashion and style help make your life beautiful, but when it comes down to it, your family and the way you live your life is the most important.
