The Oscars® are the créme de la créme of awards season. Every movie star picks what they will wear from the best designers in the world. They set trends and influence fashion for years to come. This event is my Super Bowl. I watch the preshow, anticipating who will take fashion chances, and win over the critics, or who falls short. Some actresses are predictable on the red carpet, and some surprise me every time.
Although the Oscars® fashion isn’t realistic for everyday life, it’s fun to live vicariously through each actress. You might not wear a long gown to do your grocery shopping, but you might find a pair of shoes that you love, jewelry that you can work into your everyday style, and even color palates that are fresh and cool.
Below I have put together my predictions of what the stars will be wearing to the Oscars®. From Amy Adams, to Lupita Nyong’o, I picked what dresses I would style them in and how I would accessorize their looks. I even threw a Leonardo Dicaprio look in for the guys. From their luxurious jewelry, to the most charming shoes, this is inspiration at it’s finest. Throw your two cents in, and play along as we see how close, or far off, we are when it comes to what they’ll actually wear on March 2nd.
An Outfit for Julia Roberts 1 of 7
Julia Roberts has long been the golden girl of Hollywood. I chose this dress to emphasis her charismatic personality. The accessories are black and elegant, the perfect elegant touches to balance the whimsy of the dress. I also like the cut of this dress for someone who is body conscience. Because of the sleeves and neckline, it's perfect for a mom, who doesn't want everything hanging out, but will still set the flash bulbs popping.
A Look for Amy Adams 2 of 7
Amy Adams always looks fabulous. She usually sticks to classic cuts and lengths that elongate her petite frame. I picked this mint and emerald gown designed by Rosie Assoulin. I liked this dress, not only because red heads always look amazing in green, but the color combo is fresh and cool. The accessories I chose for Ms. Adams are a homage to the film she is nominated for, American Hustle. The film is set in the late seventies and the fashion is glitzy and glamorous.
An Ensemble for Cate Blanchett 3 of 7
Cate Blanchett is one of my all-time favorite actresses. She's stunning, so talented, and she isn't afraid to take fashion risks. She likes dresses that are elegant, but most of her choices have an unexpected element. She has worn a few dresses with amazing backs, and this dress's back is stunning! Check out the link below, to see for yourself. I paired this white gown with black and white accessories to keep the look on-trend and modern.
Dressing the Adorable Jennifer Lawrence 4 of 7
Jennifer Lawrence has quickly become a media darling and fan favorite. Her fashion style has also come a long way since her first appearance at the Oscars®. She has grown into her fashion style, and doesn't hide her curves, but accentuates them. I choose this stunning Jason Wu dress for her. Last year she wore a similar shape, but in a sweet pastel pink. This year, I would love to see her add a little edge. The cutouts, strappy shoes, and insanely awesome Alexander McQueen clutch still has the glamour that this event calls for, but an edge to stand out from the other red carpet contenders.
Styling the Gorgeous Lupita Nyong’o 5 of 7
Lupita Nyon'o is a newcomer, born in Mexico to Kenyan parents. Her film debut in 12 Years a Slave has brought her to the Oscars®. It's a dream come true for any actress, but she has jumped into the awards circuit like a pro. At each event, her dress has fit her perfectly and the bright colors she chooses are perfection. If I was dressing this starlet, I would continue with the bright colors that she pulls off so well. This orchid and poppy Monique Lhuillier dress will look stunning with her skin tone, and I love the ease of only pairing it with this color block ring designed by Saint Laurent. Her look doesn't need a lot of bells and whistles. The simplicity will let her beauty radiate from within.
Menswear for Leonardo DiCaprio 6 of 7
It's a lot easier to look handsome for guys. They just need a suit. But having to wear a similar suit to every event could be dull and boring. If I was dressing Leonardo DiCaprio, I would stick with a classic suit, like this Burberry London number, but instead of black I'd choose a deep blue. I love the look of black and navy together, and it's a fun way to try something different without bucking the trends of dapper leading men.
And Last, but Definitely Not Least, Meryl Streep 7 of 7
What do you wear to the 18th Oscars® ceremony where you've been nominated? Meryl has nothing to prove, being arguably the greatest living actress in the world. I would pick something comfortable, yet chić for this legend. Always modest, and in good taste, she picks elegant lines and age-appropriate styles. This long sleeved navy gown is flattering and classic. The color is a lush contrast to her luminous complexion. I have paired it with metallic accessories to add to the prestige.
