What to Wear Where in January

Right now, the cold is all that we can discuss as January winds down, and we still have all of February to get through! Half of the country is undergoing a polar vortex. In fact, the 2nd 30 degrees is even mentioned — natives are out and about in my hometown of Chicago, discussing how nice it was that day. We truly are insane! We also know how important it is to stay warm, even while we’re indoors, and we love to keep our style a bit more casual after a long holiday season.

Here are a few inspiring looks for your winter weekends when you still want to be stylish, warm and relaxed:

  • Movie Night 1 of 7
    January 1

Nothing seems more relaxing than a night out at the movies. Maybe more so, since as a mom, I rarely get to see anything that is not animated. But I wouldn't mind being cozy and chic in a sweater dress watching Disney's Frozen for the second time.

    Dress, H&M $24.99 | Socks, Uniqlo $13 | Sneakers, H&M $50 | Necklace, Accessorize $48.50

  • Saturday Brunch 2 of 7

We love heading out for a Turkish brunch on the weekend at one of our favorite restaurants. I like wearing my best casual looks for our weekend brunches. Nothing beats an oversized cape and jeans, but I love to add a hint of color, with a bold colored tank and matching lipstick.

    Cape, Cuyana $195 | Top, AE $35 | Jeans, J Brand $194 | Scarf, Uniqlo $20 | Shoes, Topshop $75

  • Grocery Run 3 of 7
    January 3

I've been known to run into grocery stores in jeans and red lipstick, so leather pants and a statement necklace are not much of a stretch. Keep it casual by wearing a sweat shirt and canvas sneakers, because at the end of the day, aside from comfort, you'd want to stay true to you (even in the produce section).

    Pants, H&M $35 | Sweater, TopShop $45 | Necklace, Accessorize $68 | Shoes, Charlotte Russe $12.50

  • School "Shopping" 4 of 7
    January 4

Those that live in a big city know what I mean by school "shopping." My kid is four years old, but her birthday isn't until late October. Kindergarden isn't for another year. Being that I live in a great neighborhood, I have 3 really great school options to pick from, but I'd still like to "dress to impress" when we take her for her interviews.  I'd want administrators to know I care about myself and my family.

    Boots, Asos $74 | Tights, Modcloth $18 | Skirt, Maurices $20 | Jacket, J. Crew $150 | Top, H&M $13

  • Mall Rat 5 of 7
    January 5

We live close to a great indoor mall that not only has my favorite shops, but some really great restaurants. I avoid malls at all costs during the holidays, but January is when I go splurge on sales and enjoy how quiet the mall can be. Being comfortable in a jersey dress and flat boots for the long walk is a must.

    Dress, Net-A-Porter $95 | Tights, Sperry $16 | Boots, Zappos $63 | Hat, Accessorize $29 | Cardigan, ModCloth $45

  • The New Office 6 of 7
    January 6

Saturday morning is the perfect time for this mom to sneak away to the local coffee shop, catch up on a bit of work, read my favorite blog, and indulge my Pinterest obsession. I like to stay casual but keep it fun with prints, yet practical with snow boots.

    Boots, Zappos $75 | Snood, TopShop $36 | Pants, Nordstrom $50 | Dress, Target $20

  • Girl’s Night 7 of 7
    January 7

After a long month of family gatherings, school performances, dinners, after work events and non-stop scheduling, nothing sounds sweeter than a night in with your favorite gal pals. Jeans and a t-shirt is all you need, but add a rhinestone beanie, heels and a bold lip to feel a little glam.

    Top, FoyMall $30 | Lipstick, Lord & Taylor $26 | Jeans, AE $50 | Booties, Mona Moore $300 | Beanie, Ella Moss $98
