Every season, we see a trend where you either love it or you hate it. Over the last year or two, we have seen the overalls trying to make a comeback. Here’s the question: are you ready for them to comeback? I’ll never forget my favorite pair of zip-front overalls that I bought with my birthday money at The Gap the summer of my 14th birthday. I wore them so much that I wore authentic holes in each knee. At the time, I remember thinking they were super hip and incredibly comfortable. Today, it might look more like I’m wearing a big denim potato sack with a saggy baggy butt. Darling! If you are having flashbacks to your ninth grade overalls, you might want to keep them back in 1998 where they belong. But before you write off overalls all together, take note of the new and improved styles.
The big difference in the modern overall is the cut and fit. Gone are the days of overalls that you could fit a small family in. Overalls in the here and now are slim and trim, but still give you a little wiggle room. One thing that I am noticing is the legs taking a tip from skinny jeans, fitting a bit more tailored in the thigh and buns down to the ankle. Overall, the new ‘alls are all about flattering the figure. Would you even believe that was possible?
Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I was going to jump back into them myself. I was a little skeptical in the beginning, but thought if the pair and price was right I would give ‘em another round. Well, I just happened to be in Nordstrom a few weeks ago returning a gift and came across this pair by BLANK in the new Savvy Department. I loved the color and wash, and on the hanger, they looked like a flattering cut. They looked to be modern, yet not overly trendy. They lured their way into the dressing room and onto my body. I fell in love, took them to the register, exchanged the gift, took them home, and have been wearing them ever since. Even Dave likes them!! What the what? Oh, and did I mention they stretch? They stretch.
Whether you are ready to jump into this trend, you’re on the fence, or you are completely repulsed, here are 16 options out there that just might change your mind!
