7 Gifts for the Non-Tech Savvy People In Your Life

Thanks to Microsoft for sponsoring this post. Click here to see more of the discussion.

We all have friends and family members who don’t know how to use their smartphones to their full potential or just don’t get what all the hoopla behind this thing called the Internet is all about or simply avoid technology like the plague.

As eager as we may be to bring them up to digital speed, it is important not to be pushy and impose your tech knowledge on others who are reluctant to embrace it.

So when gifting to someone who is not particularly tech-savvy, it is important to keep in mind their level of tech-savviness and go from there.  Be sure not to bombard them with a super-techie item (leave that for those who know and understand the power of it), instead remain on their level or go up a notch (but not more than that – at least for now).

So if you know anyone who is not all that fond of tech, fear not – here are some gadgets you can get them wondering what took them so long to embrace this medium!

I love showing off my Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows Phone to those who aren't particularly into tech because the product speaks for itself. They are amazed at the picture quality, how easy it is to share and how intuitive it is to use. This device gives you everything you need right in the palm of your hand.  It takes amazing pictures and videos that are super easy to share with family and friends.

I showed my 76-year-old mother the Surface tablet and at first she didn't know what to do with herself. By the time I showed her a few things she was ready to take it from me and make it her own. Yes, my 76-year-old mother was delighted at the idea of being able to get to where she needed to be by just swiping the screen, and being able to take pictures of her grand kids, too!

I have had the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Ultrabook for a while now and I must say the best features so far are (in no particular order): it's lightweight (3lbs), super fast and easy to take anywhere, and the touchscreen perfect for anyone wanting the versatility of a tablet and an attached keyboard.

  • Gaming Console 5 of 9

If you know someone who still reminisces about the good old days of playing PONG, it might be time to upgrade to an Xbox One. The all-in-one entertainment center has something for everyone all in one place. Who knows, they might like it!

  • Desktop Computer 6 of 9

If a PC is preferred over a laptop, you can easily find something more suitable with Windows PC Finder. The all-in-ones are my favorite, and it cuts down on the clutter providing a nice clean area with no wires!

  • Upgrade 7 of 9
    Office-Microsoft-Store-U.S.

If your loved ones are content with the software they own, helping them upgrade can be a great gift. You can provide them with the latest version of the software they use most - like the new Office 365

The Fitbit Zip activity tracker merges fitness, simplicity and tech into a tiny device that will help you stay healthy. My brother walks the streets of New York A LOT and this is a great companion for him to track his steps and how many calories he's burned, plus it keeps him on pace with his goals.

Surprise the music lover in your life with the gift of amazing quality sound. The Jawbone JAMBOX is a portable wireless speaker that provides hi-quality sound from a 6-inch device.
