I’ll admit this: this is not news. In fact, the Reading Rainbow app is over a year old on the iPad and the Kindle app launched back in May. But when I asked folks if they knew about the app, they nearly all said NO.
This is why I wanted to share it with you.
Reading Rainbow, if you remember, was an amazing television show that ran on PBS between 1983 and 2006. It was hosted by the divine LeVar Burton, an actor I love madly with my Star Trek geeky heart, and it took kids on a reading adventure in each episode.
After being canceled in 2006 and then even the re-runs disappearing in 2009, I thought my daughter would never get to enjoy the awesomeness of Reading Rainbow.
But now? Well, know I finally know there’s an app, and she loves all things app. Probably, I’m sorry to say, more than books (cringe!).
While the app is free, you can only download five books for free. After that you have to subscribe for about $10 a month – which, if it gets my kid to read more, is money well spent. Check out the app if you haven’t seen it yet!
