20 DIY Headboard Ideas to Make
By craftyamy |
I don’t have a headboard, and I actually haven’t had one since I left my parents’ house after high school. I was one of those people that had a futon for years – and I graduated to a big girl bed in 2003. But I still didn’t get a headboard. My friends, it’s time. And since I’m a DIY kind of girl, I’m definitely going to make (or refurbish) my own. I found several in my travels on the interwebs for ideas, and I wanted to share. One of my favorites is this Love Headboard discovered at House Tweaking. I haven’t made my decision completely yet though. Take a peek at the ideas and then I’m curious – which one is your favorite?

I think my favorite is pretty patchwork, bent wood is a close 2nd though.
my husband is a welder so he made ours out of steel and bamboo….
So many good ones Amy!!! I love the “love” and the woven wood
and the turquoise painted wood and the and the and the…
I am loving that patchwork one! I was really wanting to do that love one…my husband manages a warehouse and they have a ton of extra pallets so materials would be easy, but now I’ve got a lot more ideas.
I painted a headboard this summer! I just took a huge sheet of plywood from the home depot and did a two tone design on it. I love it. It makes the room look really finished and refined. It only cost me 30 dollars. Even my husband was impressed. Hanging it is the hard part, the panel ones are easier!
I love the patchwork and the love headboards the most. I usually don’t like patchwork because it looks to much like a grandma quilt to me, but that one use modern textiles and a complementary color scheme that make it fresh and sophisticated. I just love how the love matches the pillow in the other one it’s perfect. I like the other wooden ones too. I’m used to the door idea. I knew someone who got an old door from a Thai or Indonesian monastery and it was beautiful. It was like a deep dark wood like mahogany and it was intricately carved and worn in some places. Great ideas!
I love the woven wood! So many things you could do with stain. I’ve kept my eye open for a long time, hoping id find a great old door for my new-old headboard…still looking good luck with your project.
I like the woven wood, for a more grown up look, and the chalkboard, for a more fun and creative look. On the other hand, being a bed reader, I would definitely go for something soft to lean my head and back on.. o_O
I love the rustic look of the wooden headboard.

Love the “Love” one, and the French inspired! But my favorite style is still the “picket fence” (not pictured here) with herbs and flowers stencilled on it and the walls. Have fun with whatever you choose!

I have 2 favorites. Pretty Patchwork and Recycled Sign. If you could have both, that would be great, that way you could change them out according to your mood. But if I had to pick just one, I have to go with my girly side and say the Pretty Patchwork. It’s different, something you don’t see everyday, and you can use any color variation that you want to. Good luck on your decision
