10 Resolutions for Going Green with Your Family This Year

By Emily |

If you’re one of those people, like me, who are still making your resolutions, or setting your goals for the new year, I want to encourage you to try to find ways that you can go green with your family and save the environment in simple and easy ways this year.

Every year I make a list of green changes that I would like to make over the coming year, and I thought I’d put together a little list for you, if you are interested in moving your family in a more eco-friendly direction, but maybe not quite sure where to start.

These are simple and easy changes you can make over the next year that can have a big impact on effect that your family’s life has on the planet. You can definitely start small with vowing to make just one or two of these changes this year, or maybe you’re already doing a few of these, and would like to try to do the rest of them over the course of this year.

Here are ten resolutions for going green with your family this year.

Ten Resolutions for Going Green with Your Family

1. Non-Toxic Cleaning

One of the very first changes I made on my journey towards more green living was to switch to homemade and non-toxic cleaners for my home, so it's one of the first things I recommend to anyone who is interested in making green changes in their family's life.
Get all the essentials to make homemade cleaners with your kids.

Green mom over here, hi! I wanted to say I just starting reading your blog posts and got a kick out of yesterday with the hubby. And…green cleaning is not just lowering chemicals in the home….the kids can help without fear of accidentally spraying their siblings. I am sure getting sprayed with vinegar water isnt fun, but its no worse than salad dressing! Plus a few drops of essential oil…can really make your house – yours. Window cleaner can smell like lavender or orange, your kitchen counter tops can smell like tea tree oil or lemons. Its amazingly affordable to. I add a cut of cloth with a drop of tea tree oil into the vacuum alongside the bag…and it smells so nice/clean when vacuuming.

Hi Jennie! You are so right that kids can help you clean when you use non-toxic products, it’s one of my favorite things about green cleaning! And I love the idea of a cloth with essential oil in the vacuum – thanks for sharing!

Hi Just started reading your blogs on going green thanks to my daughter who is a going green nut. I really like making my own cleaners and wanting to learn more about making them. just made the cleaner with vinegar and Dawn . love it . everything I use it on comes out so clean and shiny and leaves a clean smell. will try a drop or 2 of essential oil and see how that does. Thanks for sharing .
