12 Vintage Toys I Want For My Toddlers

By Danielle |

Toys have changed so drastically, just in the past 20 years.  I can remember so many cool things I played with in the 80′s and 90′s as I was growing up, and I have to admit looking back I think they were really the coolest toys out there.

I mean seriously treasure trolls?  Strawberry Shortcake?  Alphie!   It didn’t get any better. And we were never bored either!

But kids today have a whole different expectation of toys. It is all about electronics, even for toddlers today… remember my smart phone post?  Yeah!  Kids want technology even as toddlers!

While there is a time and place for certain toys… like electronics I wish there were some of the awesome toys we had as kids for our kids to play with.  While I am not positive they would really entertain our new generation the way they entertained us, I could certainly hope it would at least work with my own kids!

Now I am on the hunt for old vintage toys that I can get for my own kids.  And kind of for myself so I can re-live my own toddler years along with them!

What were your favorite toys when you were a toddler?

Serendipity Books

I loved Serendipity books growing up. A little more than most, because they actually give good life lessons! I am on a mission to find these for my own kids!

I have that Fisher Price record player at my mom’s house. My son loved it when he was younger (he’s 7 now).

You were never bored and you walked up hill to pre-school both ways in huge drifts of snow!

And seriously? McDonalds mascot toys? You’re nostalgic about that?

  3. Monica says:

Man oh man, I remember those! I loved Zoobiliezoo:) Also PeeWee’s Playhouse, The Wuzzles, Rainbow Bright, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Muppet Babies, and loads of other cool toys/shows on then. I have managed thanks to the tv station Sprout, to get my kids into Fraggle Rock. They show all the old shows I grew up watching.

  6. Valerie says:

I had almost all of these as a kid and agree i wish my son could experience these. My favorite toy as a kid were Peoples luckily my mother has kept all the toys my sister and I loved and has split them between our kids.

I still have my Serendipity books, and my kids love them. More importantly, they are still in print! Google Steven Cosgrove, the author of such wonderful stories as Flutterby and Wheedle on the Needle.

I had or wanted the majority of those toys. It’s just not the same anymore.

  9. Lyn says:

I had the FP TV and the FP record player when I was a kid. I am a mid 60s baby as was my sister and we loved them. You can still find some of the replica “vintage” of these two and a few others like them around at Target. My older kids were 80s babies and they had Popples & Trolls. I still have the set of McDs nugget Halloween characters. My 6 yr old loves them although they only come out for Halloween. :-)
