2012: A Year in the Life of a Delightfully Adorable Toddler (PHOTOS)

It was the best of times

It was the best of times, it was the . . . well, yeah, it actually really was just the best.

Sure, there was a diaper blowout or two that we’re happy to put behind us. Peony might have bumped her head one too many times than we’d care to admit while tripping over things that shouldn’t have been left in harm’s way.

But we’re thrilled that she survived the wrath of her older sister. And we’re positively tickled that, at nearly 16 months old, Peony has remained the same gentle, sweet and funny soul that we thought we caught a glimpse of in those very early days.

Here’s a look back at Peony’s lovely life in 2012:

  • January 1 of 25
After a nasty bout with RSV last Christmastime, she was bright eyed heading into 2012.
  • January 2 of 25
I snuck in as many of these moments as I could, knowing it was time I couldn't get back.
  • February 3 of 25
We wanted to freeze each moment in time, except even when the needle inevitably moved, she seemed impossibly cuter anyway.
  • February 4 of 25
There was — and still is — nothing quite sweeter than watching her sleep.
  • March 5 of 25
Particularly these moments. They easily fall into the not sweeter category.
Indeed, March came in like a lion.
  • March 6 of 25
Thankfully it went out like a lamb.
  • April 7 of 25
Her first dip in the pool was a rousing success.
  • April 8 of 25
The feel of the first grass of the spring was welcome, too.
  • May 9 of 25
It was moments like this that made us think perhaps we weren't feeding her enough.
  • May 10 of 25
And it was moments like this that made us feel especially grateful to be raising children in the glorious Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
  • June 11 of 25
Swings quickly became a beloved part of our warm-weather routine.
  • June 12 of 25
As did dandelions. Lots and lots of dandelions.
  • July 13 of 25
She wasn't a big fan of the sand, especially because it just didn't taste very good.
  • July 14 of 25
But other than a few gritty mouthfuls, the long summer days were a happy wonder.
  • August 15 of 25
    Peony turns 1!
  • August 16 of 25
    Hooray for cupcakes!
  • September 17 of 25
The sweets didn't end in August.
  • September 18 of 25
The treats kept right on — including a trip to Disney World.
  • October 19 of 25
    Pumpkin picking rocked her world.
  • October 20 of 25
As did Halloween dressed as Mickey (to her older sister's Minnie).
  • November 21 of 25
She's a little too little to ski, and there wasn't quite enough snow at the time anyway, but that didn't stop her from heading uphill on the Little Nell run on Aspen Mountain.
  • November 22 of 25
Thanksgiving was as good an excuse to dress up as any.
  • December 23 of 25
And December is an even better excuse to dress up — in some layers of warm clothes.
  • December 24 of 25
It was a Happy Hanukkah and a Merry Christmas for all.
  • Zzzzzzzzzzzzz 25 of 25
And to all a good night, not to mention very happy wishes for a bright and joyous 2013.
