5 Games To Keep You Active Through Winter

I’m checking out some indoor fitness options this winter!

I think winters in Seattle are sort of like childbirth.  They are so bad that once they are over you immediately block out how bad it is, in order to gear up to do it all over again.  I spent all summer going on and on about how there is no place I love more, and no place I’d rather live.  I even casually mentioned how the winters aren’t really that dark or that rainy.  Ohhh but summer Emily – yes, yes they are – you had just forgotten.

I keep coming up with all these grand exercise plans.  Morning yoga, evening runs, daily long dog walks – and then every day my plans are foiled by rain and wind, or a 4pm sunset.  So recently, I’ve started coming up with more realistic ideas.  I’ve turned to our shiny new Xbox 360.  I have never been a gamer, other than the few years of my childhood I spent hopeless addicted to the original Nintendo.  I’m learning that these new video game systems have a lot more to offer than they did in 1988.

For the next few months, I’m going to give indoor fitness a try.  I’m trying out a few different games and programs to find the best fit.  Here are 5 games I’m checking out, so I can stay active this winter…

I'll be honest, the idea of Zumba is pretty much my worst nightmare. I've never tried the class in a studio because the thought of booty shaking and shimmying around in front of others makes me die a little bit inside. But Zumba-ing in the privacy of my living room? Now that I will try.

This programs includes yoga, pilates, cardio, and strength training. I'm most excited about trying the yoga option. Our schedules aren't currently allowing for me to make it to a yoga studio, so hopefully this is the next best thing!

    Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012
This program promises "90 hours of activities, including Boot Camp, Cardio Boxing, Jump Rope and a medley of Dance classes." Sounds good to me! I'm also excited about trying out the Kinect motion sensor to help track my progress and movement.

  • The Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout 4 of 5
    The Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout
My TV watching has really taken a nosedive this year. I blame the whole "new baby" thing we have going on. But in previous years, I have been glued to the couch every week watching Bob and Jillian kick butt on The Biggest Loser. I think they are both great trainers, and I can't wait to see what this program has to offer.
