8 Super Family Friendly Cruises You May Not Know About

By Monica Bielanko |

Canada & New England cruises.

I mentioned a while ago that when envisioning taking a cruise images of sun, surf and sand come to mind.

If you’re a parent of the toddler visions of sunscreen, buckets, scoops and swim diapers probably eclipse the sun, surf and sand though, right?

Right.

And who can relax with a cocktail while constantly trying to keep a toddler from wading into the deep end of the ocean.

So forget that image of the stereotypical Caribbean cruise that is stuck in your head and keeping you from venturing on a vacation with your little one and take a gander at eight super family friendly cruises that you may not know about.

Canada/New England

New England puts on one of the greatest nature shows on earth in the fall (foliage ahoy!) so check it out and vibe on the cool culture of the quaint towns during your stops and don't forget to order some of the best lobster in the world as you cruise the shorelines of New England and Canada.

Loving these unique cruise ideas! I’m bored with sun and sand and had ruled out cruises because my mind jumps to the stereotypical Caribbean cruise, but these options might just have me reconsidering. I really love the sound of Alaska or the West Coast :)

  2. Alix says:

Wow! I had no idea there were New England cruises or cruises along the West Coast! Great info :)

  3. Layla says:

I’m not sure a long cruise is in the budget, money or time-wise. But a weekend trip sounds perfect. I’d like to get away with my hubby soon.

  4. Bonnie says:

Me and my husband were just talking about how we can’t afford a long vacation…these weekend cruise options seem to be a great solution though! now all we have to decide is where to go…

  5. Katy's Mom says:

Some of these are great ideas for my VERY heat-intolerant toddler…lol!

  6. Stefanie says:

This is one of the best articles about cruises that I have ever read. Now, truth be told, I haven’t read a ton of articles about cruises but even if I had, this would be way up there. I thought I wanted to go on a cruise before but now I REALLY do. Too much?

  7. Cynthia says:

Oh wow, that Alaska cruise looks amazing! That’s the kind of trip I would be hesitant to plan on my own, but I love with a cruise you just book everything together. So convenient and definitely doable! Now if I could just talk my husband out of his standard beachy vacations…

  8. Lisa says:

One day, I’ll make the big bucks so I can go on a European cruise! That is my dream. Maybe on my honeymoon? That would mean I would be kid-less so that won’t be a problem. Ugh…i can see it now. Me and my hubby sitting on a park bench eating croissants in Paris…the eiffel tower in the background. One day. one day.

  9. Melissa says:

That Alaska cruise looks beautiful! I’d love to take my family up there.

  10. Greg says:

Nice to see there are so many options. The same vacation spots can get old quickly. Thanks, Monica!

  11. dierdra says:

we’re new yorkers so that canada/new england sounds perfect since my kids don’t like to fly! great idea :)

  12. emily says:

My parents went on an Alaskan cruise a long time ago, and still talk about it today how amazing it was. I would DIE to take my family on any type of cruise, especially an Alaskan one.

  13. Diana says:

I didn’t know you could cruise the US! No idea why, it just never crossed my mind to stay here. My aunt and uncle take an Alaskan cruise every year but that’s so far up it doesn’t really count. :)

The Panama one sounds amazing though.

  14. Meghan Gesswein says:

I love these ideas. My sister and her family did the New England/Canada cruise a few years ago and loved it. Such a great way to see areas you wouldn’t necessarily see otherwise!

An Alaska trip (perhaps a cruise!) is on my bucket list.

The weekend getaway cruise sounds like so much fun! Especially since they leave from NYC. It’s a perfect weekend for the family and it’s those of us that don’t have cars out of the city! Although the European ones sounds amazing too!

Living in Vancouver, we’d always see the boats headed up to Alaska. My parents and grands each did it a couple of times. There’s also repositioning cruises that you can often get dirt cheap. When the boats come up from Mexico in the spring, or when they head back down in the fall. Those would be a great weekend type thing to see if cruising is your thing. Still have it on my ‘one day’ list, that’s for sure.

  17. casi says:

Wow, I had no idea they had weekend cruises! This would be awesome for first timers like me so you can see if you like it or not. Sounds awesome! Perfect weekend getaway.

  18. Just Heather says:

You’re right! I had *no* idea most of these options existed. I still think I want to go Caribbean for my first, but it’s cool to have more choices.
