A Few of My Favorite Homeopathics For ToddlersLauren Hartmann
Recently a reader asked me to share a few of my favorite homeopathic remedies that we use for Fern, so I thought I’d whip up a little post on the subject. I am absolutely NOT a doctor, so as always you should consult a doctor before giving any of these to your little one, but these are the remedies that we like and use. I will say that most of these we give to Fern on a regular basis as preventative measures and consequently she’s only been sick three times since she was born – even in the midst of this terrible flu season while my husband was deathly ill, she’s remained unscathed. Perhaps it’s just a coincidence, but I like to think some of these tinctures were to thank.

A Few of My Favorite Homeopathics For Toddlers 1 of 9I like to keep things as natural as possible when it comes to my little one and as such I try to use mainly natural remedies and homeopathic medicine whenever possible. So far she hasn't had to have any antibiotics or anything more than a little baby fever reducer a small handful of times and I consider that this is largely due to the fact that I give her immunity boosting homeopathics. Here are a few of our favorites. I included all the brands that we specifically use, but you can definitely find many of these products by other companies for possibly cheaper prices.
Spectrum Naturals Organic Coconut Oil 2 of 9Coconut oil is basically like the holy grail when it comes to hippie remedies. You can use it for everything. I cook with it, but aside from that, I use it on cuts and scrapes (it has antibacterial properties), give Fern little spoonfuls to help boost her immune system, and a slew of other uses. Just Google search it. You'll be reading for days.

Child Life Vitamin D3 Drops 3 of 9My doctor recommended a vitamin D supplement for my daughter, which is common for a lot of doctors to suggest, but especially important because we live in Oregon where winter is dark and dreary (read: sunless). Vitamin D is important for immunity boosting as well.

Boiron Camilia Teething Treatments 4 of 9We tried a few other teething remedies, but this one worked like magic. If you have a teething baby, you should probably go get this. Stat!

Gaia Kids Sniffle Support Herbal Drops 5 of 9I give this to Fern when she has a bit of a runny nose coming on or sometimes as a little immunity booster when there's sickness going around...can you tell I'm into avoiding illness here?

Herb Pharm Mullein Garlic Ear Drops 6 of 9Fern has never had an ear infection, but she's definitely experienced pain in her ears when it comes to teething, and this stuff is great for alleviating her discomfort. Granted, if you use this your kid will smell like garlic bread, but it's totally worth it.

Udo’s Choice Infant’s Probiotic 7 of 9A healthy GI tract is the first step to a healthy child and a good probiotic helps promote healthy gut flora, thus a healthy child...in theory anyway. I'm obviously not a doctor though... just a mama who has done her reading.

Nature’s Way Organic Samucus For Kids 8 of 9I actually haven't given this to my daughter yet, only because it has honey in it which she couldn't have before turning one, but now that she has I'll probably be getting some soon. This is a great way to promote overall immunity, but can also be used to help combat the flu.

Green Pastures Fermented Cod Liver Oil 9 of 9This is the holy grail for hippie mamas. You're not a real crunchy mama until you and your kids take fermented cod liver oil (FCLO for short)... particularly the butter blend. We don't take this yet, because it's a million dollars (OK, only $65, but still), but I keep trying to convince my husband that it's a good investment in our health. Read up on it - there are some truly great benefits to taking this stuff.
