A Serious Lapse In JudgmentEmily McClements
What do you think a toddler would see when they looked at this bottle?
Wrong. Very wrong.
These bottles are actually all purpose household cleaners made by a company in Puerto Rico. And the caps are not even child proof! I’m not sure what the company was thinking when they decided to put their cleaners in these types of bottles, it seems to me like a serious lapse in judgment.
On the bottom of the label it says, “Caution: Eye Irritant” and “Keep out of the reach of children”. Um, yeah, otherwise they might drink it! And who could blame them!
While most of us probably don’t have these cleaners in our homes, it is a good reminder for us as parents to keep cleaning products and other potentially hazardous items away from where our toddlers can get into them. This does get harder as toddlers get older and can pull a chair over to get into a cupboard, or figure out how to open a cabinet with a child latch on it, but that doesn’t mean that it is any less important to keep our homes safe for our kids.
Another way you can keep your children safe from dangerous ingredients in household cleaners is to make homemade cleaners with green and non-toxic ingredients. Check out my list of everything you need to get started with homemade and natural cleaners.
And besides not buying this brand of cleaner, remember to be diligent about keeping things that might look even a little bit tempting away from your kids!
