Cullen's First...Ponytail?Emily Malone
I know, I know. I need to stop talking about the heat. But seriously – we are melting! The inside of our house is 81 degrees right now, and I can’t even think about what the outside must be. The only place to seek relief is the shaded part of our backyard, where at least we catch a few cooling breezes.
We all hung out outside tonight for a few hours. Cullen was hard at work dumping buckets of dirt, throwing balls, digging with his shovels, and getting as dirty as possible. With all that activity, he was working up quite a sweat and had a constant stream of sweat beads pouring down both sides of his face. I felt so bad that he was so hot.
He has this amazing head of hair that I love, but it’s really thick and just looked so uncomfortable today. We’ve cut it many times (and he’s probably overdue for another one), but it just keeps coming back thicker and longer. So tonight, I grabbed one of the hair bands off of my wrist and started gathering his long locks. I wasn’t sure if it would work or not, but within a minute or two he had a legitimate pony tail. It was awesome.
He didn’t even notice and ran around like that for hours, proving endless entertainment for me and my husband. It game me a glimpse of what it might look like if we ever have a little girl! I don’t think a pony tail will become a permanent style choice here, but definitely helped cool him down, as well as a lot of laughs.
Have you ever let your child look ridiculous for the sake of comfort?
