When I think back on my own childhood, my greatest memories rarely involved my parents spending a lot of money. Think back on your own childhood and I think you’ll agree.
There’s so much family fun to be had without shelling out big bucks as long as you’re in it together!
Let’s run down the top cheap family fun activities!
If you’re lucky enough to live within driving distance to the beach, by all means – go! For a few bucks in parking, you’re practically guaranteed a day of awesome family fun in a beautiful setting. Sun, sand, surf and sea shells are all any toddler needs to stay entertained for hours! Side note: Hit up the discount dollar stores and hide a few shallow toys in the sand, your tot will go crazy for finding hidden treasures!
Picnics at the Park
We frequent the park because we have a modest backyard and the super fun picnic lunches we bring make our day trip that much more enjoyable. I love to cut sandwiches in fun shapes and take special care arranging adorable bento boxes with creative finger foods my toddler (heck, the whole family) loves to munch on. Side note: Bring a few special treats (yeah, for us it’s candy) and watch the happy happen.
I have to admit, games aren’t usually on BooBoo’s radar. He’d much rather shoot me with a Nerf gun or scribble on a wall but once we get him set up and ready to play, it’s family fun time! Our personal family favorites include: Candyland, Memory, Chutes and Ladders and Gone Fishing. Side note: My toddler hates to lose so if your kiddo is anything like mine, try to keep game night light and focus on having fun instead of winning.
Fun in Your Own Backyard
Even if you have a small backyard, there are plenty of ways to make the most out of it. Summer’s not over yet so fire up the grill, roll out the Slip ‘N Slide, set up a tent or teepee, fill the water guns and get ready to battle for backyard domination! Your toddler will love the good eats and water play and you will too! Side note: Even mom and dad need water guns; the hose is no fair (hee hee)!
We all love to eat so why not get cooking together? BooBoo loves donning his little apron and helping out in the kitchen. The best part is, my picky eater almost always eats what he helps prepare. Get your family together to arrange a special meal you all prepare together; good eats and memories await! Side note: Burns, cuts and nose-picking hands can ruin family fun time in the kitchen so safety and hygiene first!
With a family as awesome as yours, there are plenty of inexpensive ways to make lasting family memories.
Charge the camera, you’re going to want to capture these good times for years to come!
