Giving Up Potty Training... For Now

Goodbye... For now!

Ben will be three years old in May and I have officially decided to stop working on potty training right now. No, I have no desire for him to be in diapers till he is 30 – but I am finding the more I push it, the less interest he has in the potty.

More accidents, more diapers throughout the day, more fits when I suggest using the potty… so for now it is time to just leave it alone!

With my oldest son we had to do the same and when he was about three and a half he decided all on his own that he was ready and was all done with diapers in a hand full of days.

I am praying this is what happens with Ben as well.

I secretly was praying he would potty train earlier than his brother because of course he had a big brother to look up to and use as a potty training example. A mom can wish right?

But I have always stood by the piece of advice that pushing them to potty train to hard will only make them completely uninterested in the potty even more… prolonging the process even more right?

So for now I am going to say farewell to the potty chair. Of course I am going to leave it in the  bathroom for him if he decides he would like to use it. But I am not going to push it and I certainly am not going to ask him 60 times a day if he has to use the potty.

I kind of feel like a weight has been lifted… at least for now!
