Happy Third Birthday Benjamin

Birthday Boy on his New Bike!

Three years ago, I was sitting in a hospital room waiting to be wheeled off to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to see my baby boy.

I had labored for over 27 hours and after finally admitting defeat and admitting there was no way I would be able to VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) deliver my little boy I consented to a repeat C-section and off we went to the operating room.

1:59 p.m. we welcomed Benjamin Emil Elwood and he has lit up our lives ever since.

Through breast milk allergies, colic, and developmental delays he has defied the odds repeatedly and proven what a blessing he is to our family.

Yesterday we had a great day. We celebrated with Ben getting his very first bicycle, and then enjoying a yummy cheeseburger and ice cream at Red Robin to end the day.

It couldn’t have been a better third birthday if you ask me!

Now, I want to look back over Ben’s years in our family and just how much he has changed!

This was the first time I got to lay eyes on my baby boy. I was so happy to actually be able to hold him on the operating table as well.

Ben had some developmental delays and he didn't crawl really at all. Through therapy we got him doing a strange sort of crawl and one day he surprised us all and just started walking.

    Fireman Ben
Ben's favorite place is the firehouse. He asks to go daily and begs Daddy to bring him on all the trucks. Mind you, he knows all their names and where they belong in the firehouse. How is that for a three year old?!

When I was pregnant with Addison I had maternity photos done. This one was one of my favorites from the photo shoot...especially considering he wanted nothing to do with it at all.

Even when Ben isn't at my husband's firehouse, he is pretending he is a fireman!
