A strange thing has happened.
All of this writing about cruises has left me jonesing to take a vacation, WITH my two toddlers. Who desires vacationing with two toddlers? Crazy people, that’s who. People who like pain. Or people who have two full-time nannies on staff.
But there it is. I want to take a vacation with my kids and I have decided that I want to go cruising. Which is weird because I’ve never really been into cruises before. I have friends who swear by them, who say they’re the greatest ever. These friends haven’t taken children along, mind you, and so I stayed firmly in the no vacationing with my toddlers camp because how can it be a vacation if you’re with your toddler? It can’t. Like, the laws of physics prevent it or something. Toddler behavior equals garment rending, Advil popping and tears – on both the toddler’s part and mine.
But then I did the research it took to write these articles:
All the writing has me convinced, CONVINCED, I say, that I want to go on a cruise with my kids. Which I guess means I’m a pretty fantastic writer if I managed to convince even my skeptical self!
I’m thinking of starting off small with the weekender cruise that leaves New York City. See, it’s perfect. It’s not too long, the perfect amount of time to get our feet wet, so to speak. We can drive the few hours to the city (no dreaded airplane ride with a toddler!) and then we’re on the boat! I am immediately ditching the kids in group babysitting while I get a massage and, if they’re being really nice, I may meet up with them later for dinner. Bring on the buffet!
