I’ve been babbling on and on here about my love for cloth diapers, but I’ve never really talked (or thought!) much about what come next. Potty training – it makes me shudder just to think about! And while I don’t think Cullen is anywhere near ready to be potty trained, I think we’re ready to get a potty and start putting the idea in his head.
One of the big perks (heavy sarcasm here) of being home all day with a toddler is that I have a companion that follow me to the bathroom. He watches intently and seems very curious about what’s happening, so I figure I’ll embrace the opportunity to teach him a bit about it. My plan is to get a potty and just keep it across from the big toilet in the bathroom. Whenever I go, I’ll encourage Cullen to sit on “his seat.” I’m not going to bother getting him undressed and out of his diaper each time – it’s more just for starting to associate the potty with the bathroom experience.
Before bath time, we’ll try the full potty experience, since he’ll already be undressed. Hopefully after a few months of hanging out on his seat, he might be ready to try the real deal. We’ll see! But at this point, it can’t hurt to have one.
