I Took My Toddler To The Movies…Finally!

The Lorax Movie Poster

Shnook's First Movie http://www.theloraxmovie.com/

Today, Shnook had no school. His teachers are doing some professional development workshops. It’s raining here in Los Angeles, which generally brings us to a standstill, considering we’re just not used to the wet stuff that falls out of the sky. So…what could we do?

We could go see The Lorax!

(and get his hair cut).

Remember a long time ago I was trying to figure out what movie should be his first? Yeah, I finally got my act together.

We made an outing of it. First we went to get Mommy a coffee (very important) and we shared an empanada. The movie was at 11:30 so too early for lunch.  This may have been a mistake. Read on to find out why.

I got him a popcorn, which we shared. We ate the whole bag. This may have been another mistake.

The commercials started. There was an astounding number of them.

Then, the previews. There was an even more astonishing number of those, most of which were scary and visually assaulting in some way.

Shnook kept asking: “Where’s the Lorax?”

“The Lorax is coming. Maybe after this one….Nope. Maybe after this one…Nope.”

FINALLY, the movie started. Shnook seemed interested, although towards the middle, started to get a little sleepy. Understandable, since this is his normal naptime during the week at school.  He didn’t fidget until very close to the end, when *vague spoiler alert* there was that huge chase scene that was crazy-all-over-the-place. He asked to leave. I let him sit on my lap for the last few minutes and then we enjoyed the last song. Overall, I think the movie was a really positive experience.

However, upon leaving, I made mistake #3.

I forgot to feed the kid actual food.

We raced over to his haircut across town which we made and then left. On the way home…all of the symptoms of an overtired and starving toddler appeared. It was misery…for both of us. Thankfully, we got home, he ate something, and is now asleep, even though it’s late afternoon on a Friday. He’ll probably be up until 10 now, but hey, we made it through the day.

And his hair looks cute, too.
