It’s true. The daddy and I are going on our first vacation together. Unless you count that time we went to a cabin in the woods for a few days when we first started dating.
Or when we went to Mexico last year for my SIL’s wedding. Or the countless family cottage rentals we’ve done.
Nuh-uh. I’m not talking about a family vacation. I’m talking about just he and I, at an all inclusive, romantic resort with a private beach and hells yes I am bragging. But what I’m also doing is starting to get antsy about leaving my little loves for 7 whole days.
If you’re the type of parent who doesn’t believe in taking childless, totally self-indulgent vacations once a year where a couple focuses solely on themselves and their relationship…move along then. You are the martyr I am not and most likely judging me 6 (or 8) ways of Sunday anyways.
That’s fine. Pretty soon I’ll be sipping on margaritas 6 ways of Sunday.
A couple of things that we’ve been doing to prepare our little ones is telling them that they are going to be having a very special week at Grandma and Pappa’s. (There aren’t enough ways to say thank-you). Not sure wee Abby gets it, but Wyndham sure does and this book has been helping hit it home.
Some other ways that I’ve been preparing for our vacation is making lists of what we’ll need to pack and what I need to pack for them. Lots of email communication about food, snacks, routines, etc. with the grandparents, particularly surrounding Wyndham’s potty-training.
Other than that I can’t think of anything that I’m missing aside from doing little happy dances every few hours. I’ll miss my kids sure, and they’ll miss me (us), but they’ll be fine. They’ll have a spectacular time with a couple of the coolest g-rental units around. As for us…well obviously no one needs to worry about us.
