I'm More Than A Mom.

Me, to the core.

Hi, have we met? I’ve been blogging here at Babble for 19 months now.

I started a blog back in 2009 because I’m a writer and writers need to write.

Many writers prefer to have their work read by actual people, which is why they blog, since it is the most effective way to get read, if you’re not…say…J.K. Rowling.

It happened that I started my blog when I was in the deep dark hole of early motherhood. Sleep deprivation coupled with insomnia and anxiety colored that year (in addition to the incredible joys of having a baby). I was propelled to write. If you’ve visited my blog, you’ve noted the lack of fancy pictures, organization, updated information, etc. It’s really all about the words that come out of my fingers, or the path to which they get to my fingers.

I don’t consider myself a “Mommy Blogger” even if everyone else does. I consider myself a writer who writes what I know.

I very much appreciate all the people who come back to read my posts.

I’ve written other things, too.  Some have nothing to do with motherhood.

While I share about motherhood on this blog and my personal blog, there is much more to me than the page views of Babble. I have been and done a lot more. Here are some little known facts about me. You’ll learn a lot about my hair and other body parts. Join me, won’t you?

I've lived in California for over a decade but I'll always be a Jersey girl.
What do they say? "You can take the girl outta Jerz, but..."you know the rest.
Incidentally, doesn't New Jersey look like a flipped over smaller version of California? (Maps not to scale, people).
    Both maps from Wikipedia.
  • I have small hands with short stubby fingers. 2 of 15
I have small hands with short stubby fingers.
Nonetheless, I played piano and flute when I was growing up. Now I play guitar and ukelele.
My toes are stubby too, but I'll spare you the photo.

    I only speak English fluently...
Despite the fact that I've taken French, Spanish, and Hebrew classes, and studied German and Italian on CD's, I've never mastered one of these.
    I know, it's pathetic.

And I used to have short hair.

Here's a headshot from another era.
  • I used to look like this. 6 of 15
I used to look like this.
But only for about fifteen seconds. This was my "Shirley MacLaine in Sweet Charity" phase.
  • I lived in New York City for 7 years and it wasn’t long enough. 7 of 15
I lived in New York City for 7 years and it wasn't long enough.
...even though I decided to leave. I left because I wanted a change of pace for a while, and I never came back. At least I get to visit a few times a year since my whole family lives there.

I met my husband at summer camp when we were 13 years old.
This is us at 16, but we were not "dating" yet. That came much later.
  • I’ve never been to Disney World. 9 of 15
I've never been to Disney World.
I don't really have a desire to go, although I used to give my mom a lot of sh*t for it. Personally, I'd rather go to Paris.

I'm the wedding singer. Note the stubby fingers.

I once made fun of Prada clothes while standing in the company of Miuccia Prada
I did not know it was her and I still feel complete mortification whenever I think of this moment. I have been cursed with crippled fashion ever since. (Okay, I had it before that).

    I can tap dance.
Although my shoes are a little rusty. Maybe I'm the one who's a little rusty.
  • I have been doing yoga for over 20 years. 13 of 15
I have been doing yoga for over 20 years.
I been known to skip a few months, but it's my one consistent exercise. Now running is a solid second. I have a dream to pour my heart and soul into yoga, go on retreats, meditate before the sun comes up, etc. But it hasn't happened yet. Maybe when I retire.

    I've had a gajillion jobs...
...ranging from data-entry person to elementary school teacher to (very bad) waitress. Writing is my favorite job, by far, although I loved my kids when teaching.

I'm lucky enough to spend my summers on this lake.
I'm in love with the lake. It makes me feel calm. This is my favorite sunset ever. Can't wait to see it in a couple of months.
