It’s Oscar Time!

A big thanks to Disney for sponsoring this campaign. Click here to see more of the discussion.

xMoms of toddlers, it’s that glorious time of the year where we can push peanut butter and jelly and potty training from our minds and pretend we are among Hollywood royalty. It’s Oscar® season!

Sadly, I won’t be on the red carpet wearing a vintage Dior gown or sipping celebratory beverages with Katniss Jennifer Lawrence, but I am totally excited for the festivities. In an ideal world, I would make some popcorn and pour some bubbly and maybe have a few girlfriends over to swoon over the guys in tuxedos. In the real world, I’ll be missing the majority of the show due to dinner, bathtime, and the inevitable search for a missing lovey.

Although to be honest, I think I’ve seen…one? two? zero?….of the nominated movies. Three hours in a dark, quiet theater seems like bliss to me, but not one I get to partake in on the regular.

Ah, parenting. Missing the glitz and glamor in more ways than one.

So this year, I am pretty psyched about the official Oscars app for the 2013 awards that they’ve rolled out. I can watch the trailers of movies that I’ll have to wait until DVD to see but that look amazing. (Les Mis! Silver Linings Playbook! Argo!)  Then I can look up who’s nominated for what, cast my “vote,” and even watch cool segments on how they set up the seating and stage. Then pretend I’m backstage on Oscar Sunday.  And if we’re friends on Facebook, you can see who I voted for and see if your predictions beat mine.

Because I like nerdy things like that when I’m sitting outside my son’s door at 9pm, hoping he’ll fall asleep.

What are your plans for Oscars? Do you watch them? Who do you think will win Best Actress? Who will have the best dress? Did Ben Affleck get the shaft on the director nod?

in more good news: the official Oscars App is now available for free on all Android 4.0 devices, including new Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD. It’s also available on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch in the App Store®.
